Horror Movies Customer ReviewsBuilt space station! And then? Go to the Moon or Mars? In this film of 1954, Mars is the first!

Spaceship One has three components: a sweptback power forward, a back-ground rocket mounted on top, and an Earth-Mars-boosters attached to its end. Passengers: 5.

Mission: Tierra del Fuego-to-Mars booster for a trajectory to intercept Mars. Before entering the atmosphere, booster ejection, braking rocket wing, slipped on a landing, built the rocket to return and begin a resourceinvestigation. The day of delivery, the launch trajectory to intercept the Earth. Upon being Earth, the brake orbit of the station.

General Merritt: pilot command. Responsible for building the space station and space shuttle.

Captain Merritt: co-pilot. The son of the general wanted to return to Earth, but Mars mission has changed his mind.

Sergeants Imoto (geologist), Siegl (especially electronics) and Fodor (specialist) completed the crew.

SergeantMajor Mahoney: responsible recruited "crew. Dedicated to General Merritt. Concerned about dental hygiene.

Warning! Do not float from the shuttle to the station, probably lose. Do not remove the gloves on Mars, you will lose consciousness. Do not fill a tank of water with snow on Mars, which may be carbon dioxide. And most importantly, non-captive aboard a spacecraft on Mars, if someone shows signs of tiredness space. This person could be a serious danger to the ship and crew.

InIn summary, the conquest of space is an excellent movie. And 'pure fiction with reasonable extrapolation of science and technology in the future of 1954. The sets, special effects and acting are excellent.

Image: excellent. No cropping. Sound: excellent. Volume: Typical.

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsA bad movie but a great piece of hard science fiction - Theo - Australia
The truth is I really hate to give this movie a mediocre rating. Why is there so much I truly admire it.

Perhaps the best place to start is assigned the Moon, the producer George Pal, released five years earlier. Destination Moon is a hard piece of pure fiction. Is not a film with a lot of interest in human relations or emotions, and not pretend otherwise. And he took it for what it is, the Moon is superb. Built in 1940 andpublished in 1950, seven years before the Sputnik launch, however, is space travel in a serious and realistic - and something that could really be achieved in the short term. For 1950, this was an incredible triumph of imagination and intuition. And blessed with the talent of renowned space artist Chesley Bonestell, Destination Moon was at times truly awe inspiring to watch. The background is breathtaking lunar landscape today.

Five years later, and two moreyears before the launch of Sputnik, Pal released this film: the conquest of space. And almost everything I just said about the moon could also be applied to conquer space. Judged purely as a piece of hard science fiction, space conquest is a masterpiece. I have to say that special effects are even more impressive than those found in destination moon.

But the conquest of space trying to be more than that. Try to tell a story of real psychologicaldepth. It deals with how human beings can meet the needs and hardships of long-term space travel. This is clearly influenced by the problem of what was then called "battle fatigue" (today we would call post-traumatic stress disorder), which was then so familiar from World War II and the Korean War.

And 'trying to tell this story more psychologically complex than the space race gets into trouble. To be brutally honest, the talent of actors and scriptwritersare simply not up to the task. Workman-like performance (and in this pre Sigourney Weaver were all men) who were quite adequate, even if the Destination Moon just did not deliver the goods in the space race. That is why, as I regret to say, when judged as a film, the space race falls.

However ... Even given all this, as I said earlier, I still find much to admire in this work. It certainly does not deserve the darknesslanguishes today. For all its faults, I would recommend without hesitation the conquest of space for every fan of hard science fiction series.

Horror Movies Customer Reviewsdecent sci-fi tale for 1955 (3.5/5) - falcon - canada
for a science fiction film released in 1955, this is quite good.the
the effects are above average.the acting is good, the story is good, as is
the dialogue.all of these elements are much better than later
released Lost in Space TV show, I'm reminded of.there 's
also a message that the viewer is pounded with a sledge
hammer.there instances are a couple of stereotypical characters
behave in a stereotypical way, but these moments are kepta
minimum, with thankfully.certainly in space and gender, there is broad
Hammy opportunity and dialogue and acting up but there is

Horror Movies Customer Reviewsclassic 50's sci-fi at it's best - Alaska Slim - Diamond City, AR United States
The DVD arrived before the due date in NEW or like new condition. The Flim, at the time and a ten year old boy, was the most realistic movie ever made in space exploration. Even better then "Destination Moon" at the moment. In retrospect they are related, but since this came out the second production values are just a hair better. George Pal still does.

Icons of Horror Collection: Hammer Films (The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb / Scream of Fear / The Two Faces of Dr. Jekyll / The Gorgon) Specifications

Though perhaps not as iconic as their Dracula and Frankenstein pictures, this quartet of fright flicks from England's Hammer Films deliver enough Saturday afternoon creature feature thrills to please devotees of the legendary studio's output and vintage horror fans alike. 1964's The Gorgon will be the title to attract the most immediate attention due to the presence of Hammer's biggest stars, Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing, in its cast, and its most celebrated director, Terence Fisher, behind the camera. It's an atmospheric and offbeat entry in the Hammer canon, with one of its most unusual villains: a snake-haired fiend from Greek mythology who turns men into stone. Cushing and Lee are typically fine (both are on the side of the angels for once), and the picture's sole stumbling block is the lackluster makeup for its monster. Lee is also present in supporting roles in two other films in the collection: Scream of Fear (1961), one of several competent psychological suspense features made by Hammer in the wake of Psycho, with Susan Strasberg as a fragile young woman plagued by terrible visions and a house full of suspicious types; and Fisher's The Two Faces of Dr. Jekyll (1960), a revamp of the Stevenson story with Paul Massie as the dour scientist whose personality experiments unleash a virile but unhinged alter ego. Hardcore Hammer aficionados will be thrilled to discover that the DVD version is uncut and preserves much of the (mildly) salacious material trimmed for its release in America under the title House of Fright. The final film on Icons of Horror is Curse of the Mummy's Tomb, with Hammer exec Michael Carreras (son of company founder James Carreras) behind the camera for a featherweight monster romp that doesn't hold a candle to Terence Fisher's Mummy in 1959. Unlike previous Icons of Horror DVDs, the supplemental features here are slim--just the theatrical trailers for each film--though they do offer their own degree of charm, especially the ballyhoo-heavy tone of Mummy and the oddly elegant and unnerving preview for Scream of Fear, which is centered solely around an image of Strasberg's face. --Paul Gaita

Horror Movies Customer Reviews

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsI got this set because I love "The Gorgon, a truly classic horror film. Since it is my favorite in this series, I reviewed" The Gorgon "first. The film is full of tension and suspense, and highly atmospheric (an element I love in this classic horror film). The film is also quite unique as Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee playing roles reversed from what is expected to portray, that Lee is good and Cushing bad is wrong. The story in short - asmall town in Germany about 20 st century is plagued by mysterious deaths and appalling that local authorities silenced. The bodies were all petrified, and Peter Cushing, who plays Dr. Namaroff, director of the local insane asylum, is complicit in this silence-up as well. Amid this setting, a young man named Paul Heitz, arrives to investigate the mysterious deaths of his father and brother. We learn from a letter left by her father, that there could be a force of evil lurking in the smallcity, a Gorgon whose gaze is fatal to all who see him, turning them into stone.

As Paul investigates, he meets a beautiful woman who is also assistant be Namaroff, Carla (Barbara Shelley). When things get more dangerous, he argues with his old professor to come and help (Christopher Lee). There is much suspense in this movie, and I thought the production quality was above average. The acting is excellent, especially from Cushing, Lee and Shelley, and qualitythe DVD is clear.

Now for the other three films:
"The Curse of the Mummy" - revolves around the resurrection of Ra mummy, which continues to perform despicable acts under the control of a wicked person who has a powerful amulet. This is a horror film weak, driven by clichés and truly underwhelming. The actors are Ho-hum, with a particularly atrocious dubbing on the actress who made mistakes, gets the unwelcome attention from mummy. There is an interesting twist inalthough the film has maintained an average of interesting. Not one I'd care to see again.

"The Two Faces of Dr. Jekyll" - directed by Terence Fisher, this 1960 production stars Paul Massie Hammer as Dr. Jekyll, and also co-stars Christopher Lee, David Kossoff, and Dawn Addams. What was interesting about this film is the way they designed the two characters - Dr. Jekyll is portrayed as a person warm while Dr. Hyde is portrayed as charismatic and handsome.

"Scream of Fear" -Susan Strasberg plays a crippled young man at the mercy of an evil person / s bent over the wheel of his madness. This film is more of a psychological thriller, and is quite well done suspense film.

Final verdict - a great set for fans of classic horror!

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsIt's Hammer Time - A. Jones - Australia
Being a fan Hammer I was my whole life, I was in seventh heaven when I saw these movies were rare and not offered through a set flipper disc that was a bonus.
The recovery here is the Gorgon and Scream Of Fear, the other two is not bad, but the first two my vote on this set.
Picture and sound quality is also worth writing home about, Columbia seems to take care of their classic releases.
A lot of people saying that Hammer films trash are dated, but I will say this, Ihave had more excitement and thrills from Hammer Films than most of today's so-called horror movies.
So, for fear that perfect late night, that will not turn your stomach, but will the back of the neck hair standing up, It's Hammer Time, now the most beautiful full moon of England.

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsNot What I Thought It Would Be - Robert - Columbus, Ohio
It's all right, but not the most famous "Hammer" films included.

It's so, so ...

Horror Movies Customer Reviewspurist only - Kirk Barlow - reno nevada
scream of fear and two faces of dr. Jekyll barely hold up.in Dr. J. you must go beyond the fake beard. not an easy thing to do.the Gorgon and the Mummys tomb are almost laughable. I suggest the 20th Century Fox films that are around the same time as universal are still very classics.laird square CREG hangover and the tenant.

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsGreat Classic on DVD - Jon Ballard - Melbourne, Australia
Scream of Fear is an absolute classic film. When I discovered it was available (with 3 other films), Hammer Films on DVD I had to buy it. I was not interested in other movies to be honest, but it was so convenient that it was worth buying.

For people who saw Scream of Fear, you will never forget. It 's a real mystery film that will keep you intrigued until the end. And maybe not as scary as it was back when it was done, but it is stillcreepy, and not too dated.

I liked the movie as much as I did when I saw him. The DVD transfer is of high quality. My old VHS copy of the film was beginning to deteriorate, so I'm happy that now I have a DVD copy.

If you have never seen Scream of Fear I would recommend purchasing this DVD. Even if they have not seen before, you're in for a real treat. I'm sure in the future I'll watch the other movies in this set of 2 discs, but for now are morethan happy to own this DVD but only for Scream of Fear. If this film were more mainstream I'm sure he would be rebuilt by now. Maybe it's better that it was not rebuilt because the original is simply perfect.

Robot Stories Overview

Winner of over 30 awards, Robot Stories is science fiction from the heart, four stories in which utterly human characters struggle to connect in

Horror Movies Customer Reviews

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsThis is definitely one of the most unusual compilation of sci-fi stories, all revolving around the robot, but touching and emotionally moving. The first story, "My Robot Baby" centers around a pair [Tamlyn Tomita and James Saito] hoping to adopt a child, and the need to prove their competence in caring for a child prenthood robots. The adoptive mother-to-be discovered that there was no 'mom gene' and is emotionally detached from her child robot, until a series of events due to itsreflect more deeply on motherhood.

The second story, "The Robot Fixer" was one of the most touching series ... found a mother cope with her dying child through an unusual channel - to find pieces to complete his collection of toy robots son, hoping that by setting the toys that could 'fix' too.

The third story is called 'Love Machine', and revolves around an office android [played to perfection by director Greg Pak's robot itself] is notcompletely detached, and finds himself attracted to a female android working in offcie building across the street - this episode had a lot of sardonic humor in it.

The last story was the most challenging - aging and dying sculptor finds himself to be burdened with two options, namely his consciousness through preseving digital immortality or die a natural death. The main character is well played by SAB Shimono, whose emotional conflicts are portrayed in a credible andarouses sympathy from the viewer.

All in all, this is a unique collection of stories which, although labeled as sci-fi, more than this, and the stories the viewer emotionally Whilst giving food for thought at the same time. Worth checking out.

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsThe gentlest SF ever - wiredweird - Earth, or somewhere nearby
The title should have another word in it: "Robot love stories." Although much SF premise, it is difficult to call these science fiction stories. The issues are much more humane that the title gives no reason to expect.

The first vignette, "My Robot Baby," is motherly love. Face it, that is not something that comes easily to every woman (or man, for that matter), and there's something to say to make all your mistakes on a robot instead of a human child. The next story, "The RobotFixer, "is about family love again, faced with a terrible family tragedy. This time robots are toys, memories of a loved one when he says that love long after he needed to let go. " Love Machine, "points out that making robots in the image of our mind, we are likely to succeed too well. New underclass that will have much to overcome, especially in pursuing the rewards of their life that were not part of the product specification. Finally "Clay" is still in love robotsanother way, the kind that appears when the distinction between humans and robots completely obscures - or perhaps not so completely, in ways that matter most to sculptor Johnny.

All are stories of exceptional and warm, decorated with extras on this disc. the deleted scenes and alternate endings show other directions that thought it could go. A ten-minute short, "Mouse" also appears among the extras. It stands out from the theme of the robot, and are quite sure what to do.
Such love, stories read and write my highest recommendation. This set deserves a lot more comfortable than what is generally obtained.

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsIs the future of humankind bleak or promising? - Wendy Schroeder - Englewood, Co United States
The first story is about a couple wanting a child and had to prove worthy of caring for a child seeking crude robots. The second story was about a man who was clinically dead and the mother refused to accept it with grace. He needed to find parts for broken toys that kept since childhood. All toys like futuristic robots with their accessories. I think he felt if he could put together he would be "fixed". A little 'as Humpty Dumpty. The third was the funny one, withrobot that looked human and could interact with people. Two of their "love". I thought it was a sweet story ... in a freaky sort of way. The last story is disturbing. It was, by law, become pure consciousness through the computer. I've always found the idea of living forever as my "I" rather repulsive. I think if we live forever I preferred to rest and return to another sentient being. For other ways to live well as a human being. Maybe come back as an animal or another planet.

Sci-Fi Collector's Set V.4 Overview

LEECHES
The Lakecrest College swim team is determined to win at all costs, even if it means taking steroids. But winning comes at a horrifying cost when harmless leeches in the campus lake, quietly feeding on the steroid-rich blood of the team's swimmers, mutate into giant parasites with a vicious streak. No one is safe as these ferocious creatures brutally stalk the students and staff of the rural college and literally bleed them dry.

THE COLD EQUATIONS
Billy Campbell stars as John Barton, a strictly-by-the-book military pilot who volunteers for a lonely assignment to deliver vital medicine to miners on a far-off planet. His journey takes place on a disposable ship intended for one-way mission--built so efficiently that only essential equipment and the pilot's weight are factored into the fuel calculations. Shortly after takeoff, Barton is alerted that the ship won't have enough fuel to land due to excess weight. That's when he discovers a young stowaway, Lee Cross (Poppy Montgomery). The sober truth is that the ship won't land with both Lee and Barton on board. Although he is ordered to have her thrown off the ship, Barton and Lee develop a bond and frantically search against the odds for something else to dispose of. It seems certain that things will end tragically, but before they do, the pair find something in each other that is worth living for and perhaps something for which they will sacrifice their lives.

LAST LIVES
The walls between one universe and another are blown apart when a criminal from a parallel world crosses over into ours. C. Thomas Howell stars as Aaron, a man who will risk everything to stop Malakai, a ruthless insurgent who has escaped onto Earth. When Malakai kidnaps his fiancée, Aaron's only hope against his otherworldly opponent is a supply of "life bands," special bracelets which automatically rejuvenate the dead body of anyone who wears them. Now, armed with nine extra lives, Aaron is prepared to die over and over again to reclaim the woman he loves. Jennifer Rubin, Billy Wirth and Judge Reinhold co-star in this sci-fi thriller, loaded with explosive action and spectacular special effects.

FIREHEAD
When a Russian cyborg with telekinetic powers terrorizes a city, an elite government agency intervenes. Col. Vaughn (Christopher Plummer) convinces "regular guy" chemist, Warren Hart, to team up with a beautiful blonde agent to capture the menace. But Warren finds the true villain isn't who he expected. Forces of good and evil go head to head in this paranormal story of corruption and redemption...with the world's future hanging in the balance.

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsI liked this movie for various reasons, made me laugh, made me nervous, and it blew my mind. There is something the characters in this film are real people, but obviously much more precious. So I guess the acting was not so bad.

Has something to say regarding people and the need to belong and feel accepted. This is a about the only thing that makes the story unique and timeless. Other than that a person would be horrified cheeseeffects and sounds of this film, although I liked for this reason. The way this movie is made, it makes you embarrassed about both past and long for those days to return. I can not imagine what would have taken much of a budget. And indludes several familiar faces including Punky Brewster and the child from the Neverending Story.

I would definitely recommend watching this movie once. At the beginning of this film you might not know exactly what to expect so Iruin of me. Maybe a little 'bad at first ... and to the bottom for that matter. But if your boss is not made of concrete than you should get at least a little 'something out of this movie.

Horror Movies Customer Reviewsvery satisfied !! - Kathy Metcalf -
Seen this movie years ago and never heard of again. Looking for old scary movies for Halloween, this movie came to mind. Nobody had heard of. I went to Amazon and not even know the name of the movie, I found and purchased without any problem. I was so excited to see again, and was in great condition.

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsA Real Taste of the 80's! - Ryan Freer - Fort Worth, TX USA
It 'was at least 17 or 18 years since I first - and last - saw this movie on TV. Even then, it was really a throwback inspiration. What I liked best was 80 was as powerful in every respect. The musical score builds in particular back to a previous period of rich electronic music with analogue synthesizers, and 'Tangerine Dream-like' soundscapes. It 's always a great experience back to the spirit of that time. No other film can do better than low budget as relicsthis, they are almost forgotten.

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsFills The Need For Cheeeze!... - Bindy Sue Frønkünschtein - under the rubble
Wes Craven is an interesting director. The same genius behind horror classics as The Hills Have Eyes, Last House on the Left, and A Nightmare on Elm Street, is also responsible for some important additions to the annals of cheeeze. His call-4-TV movie made for hell is an excellent example of the latter. Satan is ugly old to his old tricks, this time in the guise of the beautiful Jessica Jones (Susan Lucci!), Health club owner. Enter a loving family (including Robert Urich,Blade Runner's Joanna Cassidy, and she Punky Brewster-Soliel Moon Frye!) Of unsuspecting suburbanites who are involved in a diabolical plot to make them join the club Steaming Springs health. Just know, Jessica is just trying to imprison their souls! Dad Can (Urich) understand things and save the day before gyms like this start popping up all over our great land? We pray for your success! Look for Kevin McCarthy (Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Howling,Piranha, Twilight Zone: The Movie), as head of Daddy, and Michael Berryman (The Hills Have Eyes, The Devil's Rejects), as a waiter! Everyone should see this movie once ...
