The Ruins Specifications

Whether you consider plants a source of terror or not will ultimately determine how you feel about the grisly horror movie The Ruins, but director Carter Smith and his cast and crew certainly give their all in bringing the chills of Scott Smith's novel to the big screen. Jena Malone (Saved) and Shawn Ashmore (the X-Men franchise) are the name actors in a pair of American couples down Mexico way who are ambushed by hostile Mayans and forced to the top of an ancient temple, where a monstrous and diabolically clever entity awaits them. Director Smith and his talented crew (which includes cinematographer Darius Khondji of Se7en fame and composer Graeme Revell) create a visually impressive spookshow but can't quite deliver genuine suspense (gore, however, is handled capably), and Scott Smith's script boils away much of the character development and mounting terror in his book, which also strands the likeable cast. The movie's monster, so alarming and imaginative in the original novel, is likely to provoke as many laughs as screams from filmgoers, especially when it reveals its unique talent. -- Paul Gaita

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsFiendish Foliage Finishes Foolish Foursome!... - Bindy Sue Frønkünschtein - under the rubble
Four beautiful young American tourists (there are other kinds?) Venturing deep into the Mexican jungle to visit the ruins. On arrival, the horror begins. OK, so we have an ancient Mayan pyramid, covered with weed-killer and surrounded by locals scary. What could have been a story of suspense film turns into a survival rather than fun. There are two fundamental flaws: 1 - The 'action' is taken in drops, like watching the wounds fester. 2 - Flowers, intelligent or not onlyare not all that fear! While there were some thrilling moments, even a little 'meatball surgery, most of the movie just drags. If you want real spooky plant life, go re-watch The Day of the Triffids ...

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsOk better than ok pretty good. - Michael Goff - michigan United States
Not bad, has some fresh ideas, it's worth watching, I like the cool twilight zonesque feel of the film.

Horror in the Wind Overview

The President of the United States, a religious fanatic, catches wind of a secret formula that suppresses sexual desire and is determined to use it to win the 'War on Sex.' He manages to steal the formula from the creators before they finish testing it, and no one is prepared for what happens next. The President orders airplanes on a secret mission to cover the globe, spraying the secret formula in every nook and cranny covering entire hemispheres. But the plan backfires when the formula doesn't work as promised instead of suppressing sexual desire, it actually reverses it! The straights become gay, the gays become straight, and everyone s lives are surprisingly turned sexually upside down. Unexpected love flourishes, sexual desires rise to the surface, and when an antidote is finally found, you'd think everyone would be first in line to take it...or would they?

Horror Movies Customer Reviews"Horror in the Wind"

"The war of the President in Sex Races Results Queer"

Amos Lassen

I'm still laughing after watching "Horror in the Wind", the new version Ariztical Entertainment. "This is a film that's low, at first, had nothing going for it. The acting is mediocre, the sets are nothing special and the idea seemed to be somewhat 'trivial - however, is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen.
The President of the United Stateshears about a secret formula that suppresses sexual desire and because he is a die-hard religious fanatic, he decides that is the answer to his problems and will use it to win what he calls "The war on sex." He is able to steal the formula from those that developed before the test is and what happens next is the stuff that all comedies should be made. Has the order of aircraft around the world and spray the formula everywhere. However things do not go as planned andInstead of suppressing the desire, the formula is reversed and straights become gay, and vice versa. The world is suddenly turned upside down sexually. Love takes hold of those who had never considered sex as an outlet and as lust rises to the surface, things go wild. The president falls in love with her help, Karl Rove began to dress in drag and the world is really a mess. Interspersed in the film are the news that will keep you rolling - especially when you read what is written onbottom of the screen. The satire is silly, but strong and the film has some great one-liners as a parody of the way we live today. Written and directed by Max Mitchell, you get some of the best satire I've ever seen.
I will not go more into the plot because I do not want to spoil your fun but I will say that this is a film that does not want to miss. Ignore the bad acting and direction, and forced to put your mind into what is happening. It will be so glad you did - and, one couldnever think of George Bush, Tom Cruise or Liza Minnelli in the same way again.

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsBetter in another movie - Mike Graham - Palestine, TX, USA
The premise of the story is interesting. The acting is stiff and uninspired. The story is told and performed better in the film "Were the World Mine>"

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsCould have been clever, but this comes off too cartoonish and stereotypical. - Bob Lind - Phoenix, AZ United States
Two biogeneticists inept in New Mexico stumble upon a formula that seems to discourage sexual activity among the laboratory mice, offering hope can be used to reduce populations of rats in urban areas. But our country naive religious fanatic of the President at the time, desperate for something to help his approval rating, feel it first, and decides to use the untested formula to reduce sex before marriage young people. He rushes out the formula for the general population, beforeinventors to determine a very serious side effect: it turns out straight, gay, gay and straight. Uh, oh.

I really wanted this movie, imagining a clever satire on the subject, in capable hands, could be both fun and enlightening for many people. Unfortunately, this attempt falls far short of that, and - in my opinion - is notable only in that it exceeds the "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry" as the worst gay-themed films of the past decade.

I realize that this is a low-budget films, with inexperienced actors, and I blame for this. However, the whole gives the impression it was shot during a long weekend, with much of the dialogue adlibbed at one extreme cartoon. There's a little 'ongoing relationships with "Fax" (a parody of Fox) News, on the outcome of the chaos of the formula, which was clever the first couple of times it was used, but soon became boring and overdone. The characters became mostly straightFull stereotypes, once had "turned gay", and the subsequent persecution of heterosexuals (now a minority, while the law is introduced to outlaw heterosexual marriage) can be seen as a justification for discrimination against gay people in our real world . At best, the film leaves the viewer with a slightly bent straight homophobe falsely feel as if they were open minded.

Extended DVD extras, including hearings, table reads, commentary and stills. I can not give anymore than two out of five stars.

Child's Play (Chucky's 20th Birthday Edition) Overview

The "chills come thick and fast" (Los Angeles Times) as voodoo and terror meet within an innocent-looking doll inhabited by the soul of a serial killer who isn't ready to die. From the Director of Fright Night comes a "clever, playful" (The New York Times) and stylish thriller with "excellent special effects" (Leonard Maltin) and heart-pounding suspense guaranteed to scare! After 6-year-old Andy Barclay's (Alex Vincent) babysitter is violently pushed out of a window to her death, nobody believes him when he says that "Chucky," his new birthday doll, did it! Untilthings start going terribly wrong dead wrong. And when an ensuing rampage of gruesome murders lead a detective (Chris Sarandon) back to the same toy, he discovers that the real terror has just begun'the deranged doll has plans to transfer his evil spirit into a living human beingyoung Andy!

Child's Play (Chucky's 20th Birthday Edition) Specifications

Horror maestro Tom Holland (Fright Night) brought wit and devilish energy to this 1988 scarefest about a murderer (Brad Dourif) who wills his soul into an innocuous doll named Chucky, and reveals himself only to the toy's owner, a frightened little boy. Catherine Hicks plays the child's mother, and Chris Sarandon a detective; neither of them knows what to make of the kid's story. Monster-doll stories are always wonderfully surreal, and Child's Play is no exception. Holland oversees some finely tuned special effects that allow Chucky to express himself and do some damage--it is truly unnerving but somehow good, subversive fun. --Tom Keogh

Horror Movies Customer Reviews

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsCathreen Hicks, Chris Sarandon, Alex Vincent, Brad Dourif, Dinah Manoff. A pretty good horror movie with lots of thrills and special effects. The plot is a serial killer in Chicago (Dourif), who was shot down in a toy shop by a detective (Sarandon) and right before he died he uses black magic to transfer his soul into a doll in a shop. A boy (Vincent) gets the same doll for his birthday and after his baby-sitter (Manoff) is killed, everyone thinks he did. And oncethere is another murder, the boy is put away for a while '. But the boy's mother (Hicks) do not buy it and make the terrifying discovery that the doll is alive, after all, and its objective is to take revenge on the detective who killed him and transfer his soul into the body of the boy. I'm really glad this movie did not go straight for shock value of blood and gore is very similar to The Thing (1982) and The Fly (1986) so this does not have a lot of blood until the final scene. And another thing that this film is good for youto put the doll alive in modern pop culture and the same doll, Chucky, it's so fun to watch and it's still a horror icon from memorable. But other than Chucky, the human characters were quite believable, even little Alex Vicent. And I also like how it is not a story living doll was the doll has a mind of it's own and no background of how the doll came to life, this time the story is more focused on the doll, which is a nice change. The special effects are quite the dollwell, they try their best to make the doll seems to live and work. This item, by Brad Dourif is pretty well done. Overall, there is a good film, chilling, and not just blood.

I give it **** of ***** stars
*** Out of ****
and 7 / 10

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsCheesy horror at its best! - Shawna Jennings - PHOENIX, ARIZONA, US
When I first saw this film at the tender age of 5! I liked it then and still haunted doll scary but cool voice wickedly awesome and unique tools for murder. I know it sounds a bit 'morbid, but for the courage and true fan of blood, even if it is from 1980, you can not go wrong with a good movie Chucky.

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsChild's Play - Jose Lopez - Miami,Florida USA
Compared to the sequel later and at the time of writing a "reboot" of the original to make it again Fear, this film won 3 in half to 4 stars. E 'was scary as a kid, but has lost some of its luster over time. I would not go away and call it a classic, but not a film that should be overlooked.

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsScurry Dollies - Brian Harris - United States
We have been here and we did this, Child's Play is a minor classic horror and then there's really nothing more to add to this, but to say that, in my opinion, time has taken care Child's Play fans too well and was fully dishonest with themselves about its importance. While I certainly enjoy the movie for what it is "just right", is anything but a masterpiece of terror. Chucky looks fantastic, he is the icon of a genre and respect that I can, but if a film like this were to be released today its faultscould not be ignored, bad cold or not. This does not mean that it should be judged by today's standards, only that a film with this type of plot is barely visible and so-so the dialogue would have received much less.

Child's Play is at the center of it all fun and this is the bottom line. I'm not entirely convinced Chucky deserves canonization has received but there is no denying the charm of a foul-mouthed doll, armed with a knife!

It is likely that many of you already havethis so I'm sure that is the question on everyone's mind is: "Why should I buy this year?" and the answer is simple ... This edition has a buttload of special features. If you're a junkie special feature, this is a nice little 'press release full of fresh new featurette and audio commentary.

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsThere's a new killer in town - S. Harris - Prattsburgh, New York
Child's Play takes on a different way of approaching what may be known as the `'slasher genre. Unlike others like Halloween, Friday the 13th or Nightmare on Elm Street, where it is what it looks like a normal person to kill people throughout the film. Child's Play is a different approach, something that no other movie made in my opinion. While the killer Charles Lee Ray, aka 'The Lakeshore Strangler' is killed early in the film, but do not stopthe transfer of its 'soul' in a body of a doll, even a doll. The doll ends at the end in the hands of a 6 year old boy named Andy Barcley, and that's when the fun starts there. The doll is now known as 'Chucky' trying to find a way to become human again and try everything to enter the body of Andy, and he'll go through great lengths to make this happen. With the effects used in this film, it's amazing what they were able to pull this movie and make it scary to an extent.Overall I give this movie 3.5 out of 5 stars.
