Take Me Naked/A Thousand Pleasures Overview

It's Another Findlay Frenzy! Yes, Michael and Roberta Findlay -- the outrageous auteurs of the infamous "Flesh" trilogy (The Touch of Her Flesh, The Curse of Her Flesh, The Kiss of Her Flesh) -- continue their bizarre Battle of the Sexes with this utterly deranged, diseased, and degenerate double feature! Peeping out the window of his skid-row room, a Bowery bum becomes obsessed with Elaine, "a living tomb of flesh" who lives in the building next door (played by Roberta Findlay in a rare starring role). But when his sexual fantasies are invaded by "a twisted mental hunchback" (director Michael Findlay of course), the bum snaps, goes into a homicidal rage and, completely bonkers, brings Elaine a carving knife he thinks is a bouquet of flowers.... This maniacally morbid masterpiece is a foaming at-the-mouth mix of art-film lyricism and horror-movie excess as only the Findlays made 'em! Plus, wife-murderer Richard Davis (director Michael Findlay again) picks up deranged hitchhikers Maggie and Jackie, takes them to their house of A Thousand Pleasures, and meets their brain-damaged adopted daughter "Little Baby," a full-grown woman in a diaper. Maggie and Jackie, however, want a real child but, because they're "true lesbians" who "hate the filthy touch of men," decide to turn Davis into their very own sperm bank. Please consult your doctor after viewing. These films are so sick, they might be contagious.

Steven Spielberg Presents Taken Overview

Studio: Paramount Home Video Release Date: 05/01/2007 Rating: Nr

Steven Spielberg Presents Taken Specifications

Steven Spielberg's alien abduction opus Taken is what happens when you cross-breed Close Encounters of the Third Kind with The Waltons. Obviously flushed with the success of the TV miniseries Band of Brothers, Spielberg's Dreamworks studio has created an equally epic 10-part story chronicling 50 years of habitual abduction over several generations of three American families. Beginning with the most notorious alien cover-up in U.S. history, the 1947 "crash" at Roswell, New Mexico, Taken introduces the "Greys" and the families they routinely abduct, probe, and, in a couple of cases, impregnate over the course of the ten 90-minute episodes. The three families are: the Keys, from which first Russell, then his son Jessie, then grandson Danny, are all abducted; the Clarkes, who are descended from a liaison between lonely put-upon housewife Sally Clarke and one of the Roswell crash survivors; and the Crawfords, the ruthless G-men who are committed to uncovering the purpose behind the alien visitations at any cost.

It's this question that forms the main thread of the story: but even though the Greys' actions are at best ambiguous and at worst hostile, the viewer can't help feeling that after all this systematic abuse of their human test subjects the aliens will in the end present them with a cure for cancer. In fact, Taken is Spielberg at his most touchy-feely: for all its science fiction trappings it's basically a soap opera, lacking the sinister undercurrent of either Dark Skies or The X-Files. Nevertheless, it's an engaging series with decent performances--most notably Joel Gretsch as psychotic Owen Crawford--good special effects, and an engaging enough storyline to make it entertaining, if somewhat disposable, TV. --Kristen Bowditch

American Psycho [Blu-ray] Overview

Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale) is a Wall Street yuppie, obsessed with success, status and style, with a stunning fiancee (Reese Witherspoon). He is also a psychotic killer who rapes, murders and dismembers both strangers and acquaintances without provocation or purpose. Based on the controversial novel, the film offers a sharp satire to the dark side of yuppie culture in the '80s, while setting forth a vision that is both terrifying and chilling.

American Psycho [Blu-ray] Specifications

The Bret Easton Ellis novel American Psycho, a dark, violent satire of the "me" culture of Ronald Reagan's 1980s, is certainly one of the most controversial books of the '90s, and that notoriety fueled its bestseller status. This smart, savvy adaptation by Mary Harron (I Shot Andy Warhol) may be able to ride the crest of the notoriety; prior to the film's release, Harron fought a ratings battle (ironically, for depictions of sex rather than violence), but at the time the director stated, "We're rescuing [the book] from its own bad reputation." Harron and co-screenwriter Guinevere Turner (Go Fish) overcome many of the objections of Ellis's novel by keeping the most extreme violence offscreen (sometimes just barely), suggesting the reign of terror of yuppie killer Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale) with splashes of blood and personal souvenirs. Bale is razor sharp as the blank corporate drone, a preening tiger in designer suits whose speaking voice is part salesman, part self-help guru, and completely artificial. Carrying himself with the poised confidence of a male model, he spends his days in a numbing world of status-symbol one-upmanship and soul-sapping small talk, but breaks out at night with smirking explosions of homicide, accomplished with the fastidious care of a hopeless obsessive. The film's approach to this mayhem is simultaneously shocking and discreet; even Bateman's outrageous naked charge with a chainsaw is most notable for the impossibly polished and gleaming instrument of death. Harron's film is a hilarious, cheerfully insidious hall of mirrors all pointed inward, slowly cracking as the portrait becomes increasingly grotesque and insane. --Sean Axmaker

Legend Overview

LEGEND - DVD Movie

Legend Specifications

This strange, 1985 experiment by Ridley Scott (Blade Runner) starred the up-and-coming Tom Cruise in a fairy-tale world of dwarfs and unicorns and demons. After the horn of a unicorn is broken, darkness and winter descend upon the world. Cruise's character, helped along by a magic sprite played by David Bennent (The Tin Drum), descends into hell to save paradise. This movie is almost a classic case of art direction gone amok. The somewhat amorphous Cruise doesn't lend much dramatic focus or artistic definition, but the drama between Tim Curry's satanic majesty and Mia Sara's character, who becomes a sort of princess of the netherworld, is pretty captivating. A mixed experience all around that makes one wish it had been more successful. --Tom Keogh

The Matrix Specifications

By following up their debut thriller Bound with the 1999 box-office smash The Matrix, the codirecting Wachowski brothers--Andy and Larry--annihilated any suggestion of a sophomore jinx, crafting one of the most exhilarating sci-fi/action movies of the 1990s. Set in the not too distant future in an insipid, characterless city, we find a young man named Neo (Keanu Reeves). A software techie by day and a computer hacker by night, he sits alone at home by his monitor, waiting for a sign, a signal--from what or whom he doesn't know--until one night, a mysterious woman named Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) seeks him out and introduces him to that faceless character he has been waiting for: Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne). A messiah of sorts, Morpheus presents Neo with the truth about his world by shedding light on the dark secrets that have troubled him for so long: "You've felt it your entire life, that there's something wrong with the world. You don't know what it is, but it's there, like a splinter in your mind, driving you mad." Ultimately, Morpheus illustrates to Neo what the Matrix is--a reality beyond reality that controls all of their lives, in a way that Neo can barely comprehend.

Neo thus embarks on an adventure that is both terrifying and enthralling. Pitted against an enemy that transcends human concepts of evil, Morpheus and his team must train Neo to believe that he is the chosen champion of their fight. With mind-boggling, technically innovative special effects and a thought-provoking script that owes a debt of inspiration to the legacy of cyberpunk fiction, this is much more than an out-and-out action yarn; it's a thinking man's journey into the realm of futuristic fantasy, a dreamscape full of eye candy that will satisfy sci-fi, kung fu, action, and adventure fans alike. Although the film is headlined by Reeves and Fishburne--who both turn in fine performances--much of the fun and excitement should be attributed to Moss, who flawlessly mixes vulnerability with immense strength, making other contemporary female heroines look timid by comparison. And if we were going to cast a vote for most dastardly movie villain of 1999, it would have to go to Hugo Weaving, who plays the feckless, semipsychotic Agent Smith with panache and edginess. As the film's box-office profits soared, the Wachowski brothers announced that The Matrix is merely the first chapter in a cinematically dazzling franchise--a chapter that is arguably superior to the other sci-fi smash of 1999 (you know... the one starring Jar Jar Binks). --Jeremy Storey

And Then There Were None Overview

This is it! Agatha Christie's famous mystery, "Ten Little Indians," deftly brought to the screen by legendary French director Rene Clair in this restored original screen masterwork. Ten strangers are invited as weekend guests to a mansion on a remote island. When the host doesn't show up, the guests start dying, one by one, in uniquely macabre Agatha Christie-style. A brilliant cast lead by Academy Award-winning actors Barry Fitzgerald and Walter Huston.

And Then There Were None Specifications

At first glance, René Clair might seem an odd match for Agatha Christie's mystery thriller Ten Little Indians, but his buoyant touch is exactly what is missing from so many overly solemn remakes. Ten strangers gather for a mysterious gathering on a secluded island. It turns out to be a farewell party, for they all have been sentenced to die for crimes in their past by a self-appointed judge, jury, and executioner who may be one of them. One by one, the guests are systematically dispatched in the manner described in the lyrics of the children's rhyme "Ten Little Indians," while the survivors nervously eye one another, splintering into tenuous alliances until the next murder throws suspicion on someone new. The terrific cast of character actors has a ball with Dudley Nichols's witty script. The flamboyant sparring of Barry Fitzgerald (whose paternal Irish lilt takes a sinister dimension) and Walter Huston is almost upstaged by Roland Young's deadpan drollery. Romantic leads Louis Hayward and June Duprez come off as arch and stiff in august company that includes a sinisterly detached Judith Anderson, a dotty and distracted C. Aubrey Smith, and a hilariously flippant Mischa Auer. The story has been remade numerous times under the title of Christie's novel, Ten Little Indians, but never as well. Clair's effervescent, lively little gem is a fatal drawing-room comedy with a body count and a surreal mood of doom. --Sean Axmaker

Ghost Ship [Blu-ray] Overview

GHOST SHIP - Blu-Ray Movie

Ghost Ship [Blu-ray] Specifications

While it offers nothing new for horror buffs, Ghost Ship relocates its haunted house clichés to an eerily effective setting. The Italian luxury liner Antonia Graza, its fate a mystery for 40 years, has suddenly reappeared in the chilly Bering Sea. Lured by a seemingly harmless proposition, Gabriel Byrne and Julianna Margulies lead a salvage crew (including Ron Eldard, Margulies's offscreen partner and fellow ER alumnus) to claim the wreck. But a grisly prologue--in which we witness the horrific fate of the ship's crew and passengers--makes it clear that bad things are going to happen. And they do... with the predictability of tomorrow's sunrise. The supporting cast is routinely dispatched, but their fates are determined amid outstanding art direction, slick cinematography, and judicious digital trickery, all primed to maximize the doom-laden atmosphere. Director Steve Beck (who remade 13 Ghosts a year earlier) won't win any awards for ingenuity, but Ghost Ship offers a few good chills for a dark and stormy night. --Jeff Shannon

The Dead Zone (Special Collector's Edition) Overview

Christopher Walken wakes from a coma due to a car accident, only to find he has lost five years of his life, and yet gained psychic powers. Foreseeing the future appears to be a 'gift' at first, but ends up causing problems…

The Dead Zone (Special Collector's Edition) Specifications

The Dead Zone is based on a novel by Stephen King, directed by David Cronenberg (Scanners, The Fly) and produced by Debra Hill (Halloween, The Fog). Such a trio of horror vets would be expected to come up with an evening of shocks and gore, but The Dead Zone is a surprise. While it has great atmospheric eeriness and undeniably scary moments, The Dead Zone is at heart a sensitive and thoughtful portrayal of main character Johnny Smith's dilemma. Christopher Walken, king of the vaguely creepy, plays Smith, a man who awakens from a five-year coma with the very mixed blessing of second sight. At the mere touch of a hand, Smith is unwillingly launched into scenes of past and future terror. (Director Cronenberg is said to have fired blanks from a .357 Magnum just out of camera range to keep Walken's flinching spontaneous.) The Dead Zone wisely takes its time telling the story, and thus allows for some great performances. Walken gives a rich portrayal of the conflicted Smith, and Colleen Dewhurst and Tom Skerritt both do welcome turns in smaller roles. The most fun of all, though, is clearly being had by Martin Sheen, who gives a spirited performance as a complete sleazebag. --Ali Davis

Stigmata Overview

A lost soul has just received the wounds of Christ and a shocking message that will alter history. Stunning performances from Patricia Arquette (True Romance), Gabriel Byrne (The Usual Suspects) and Jonathan Pryce (Ronin) and a cutting edge score by Billy Corgan of The SmashingPumpkins and Elia Cmiral make Stigmata a visual and visceral feast (Entertainment Today). Frankie Paige (Arquette) has absolutely no faith in God. All of that changes when she suddenly begins to suffer the Stigmatathe living wounds of the crucified Christ. Frankie's miraculous bleeding comes to the attention of the Vatican's top investigator, Father Kiernan (Byrne). But when Cardinal Houseman (Pryce), discovers that Frankie is actually channeling an extraordinary and provocative message that could destroy the Church, he's convinced that she - and the force possessing hermust be forever silenced. Determined to stop this deadly conspiracy, Kiernan risks his faithandhis lifeto save her and the message that will change the destiny of mankind forever!

Stigmata Specifications

Gabriel Byrne plays Father Kiernan, a young Jesuit priest whose degree in chemistry makes him a sort of priest/detective as he investigates weeping Marys and the like around the world. Meanwhile, Frankie (Patricia Arquette), a rave-generation Pittsburgher, is afflicted with the stigmata--holes that appear in her wrists, resembling the wounds of Christ. The young woman's symptoms filter back to the Vatican and Father Kiernan is assigned to the case. The priest is puzzled by Frankie's atheism; usually the stigmata only appear on the devout (hence the age-old controversy of miracles vs. hysteria). Other manifestations appear on Frankie, and the priest's cardinal (Jonathan Pryce) is brought in, leading to political maneuvering within the Church hierarchy. The film owes a large and obvious debt to The Exorcist (at one point, Frankie's bed scoots across the room and she levitates into a crucifix position), but to term it an Exorcist rip-off would be to shortchange Stigmata. The premise and screenplay are more cerebral than in the l973 film, and the source of the phenomenon is coming from a completely different place.

Unfortunately, amid Stigmata's high-octane editing and slick technique, the chills of The Exorcist aren't there, giving the movie a sort of identity crisis: horror movie or intellectual thriller? Several elements of the film challenge basic tenets of the Catholic faith, hence the brief furor that erupted at the time of the film's release; if nothing else, the internal workings of the Church are shown in a very unflattering light indeed. Byrne excels as the skeptical priest, as does Arquette as the tortured young woman. All told, Stigmata is a rather uneven effort, but one with a thought-provoking combination of theology and thrills served up in a thoroughly modern, stylish package. Fans of TV's Ally McBeal will recognize Portia DeRossi in a supporting role. --Jerry Renshaw

Poltergeist Overview

This awesome supernatural thriller stars Craig T. Nelson and JoBeth Williams as a California couple swept up in a wave of horror after sinister spirits invade their home and kidnap their child. Year: 1982 Director: Tobe Hooper Starring: Craig T. Nelson, Jo Beth Williams, Beatrice Straight

Poltergeist Specifications

What a combo! Tobe Hooper, the director of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, teamed up with family-oriented producer Steven Spielberg to make Poltergeist. The film is about a haunted suburban tract home in a development very much like the Arizona one in which Spielberg was raised. (Because it came out the same summer as Spielberg's E.T., it was tempting to see both movies as representing Spielberg's ambivalent feelings about childhood in suburbia. One was a fantasy, the other a nightmare.) Spielberg also cowrote the screenplay, which taps into primal, childlike fears of monsters under the bed, monsters in the closet, sinister clown faces, and all manner of things that go bump in the night. At first, some of the odd happenings in the house are kind of funny and amusing, but they grow gradually creepier until the film climaxes in a terrifying special-effects extravaganza when 5-year-old Carole Anne (Heather O'Rourke) is kidnapped by the spooks and held hostage in another dimension. Though not nearly as frightening as Hooper's magnum opus, or the original A Nightmare on Elm Street, which came along two years later, Poltergeist is one of the smartest and most entertaining horror pictures of its time. --Jim Emerson

Village of the Damned Overview

VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED - DVD Movie

Village of the Damned Specifications

The original 1960 version of Village of the Damned is regarded as a classic of science-fiction and horror, and it remains one of the creepiest movies of its kind. Directed with occasional flair by John Carpenter, this 1995 remake trades subtlety for more explicit chills and violence, but the basic premise remains effectively eerie. In the tiny, idyllic town of Midwich, a strange mist causes the entire population to fall asleep, and when everyone awakes the town physician (Christopher Reeve) discovers that 10 women--including his wife and a local teenaged virgin--have mysteriously become pregnant. Their children are all born on the same day, with matching white hair and strange, glowing eyes, growing at an accelerated rate and raising Reeve's suspicion that they're not of Earthly origin. These demonic brats can control minds and wreak havoc with the power of their thoughts--so of course, they must be destroyed! Only Reeve knows how to get the job done, and his performance (the actor's last big-screen role before his paralyzing accident in 1995) grounds this otherwise superfluous remake with enough credibility to hold the viewer's attention. But for the real chills, definitely check out the original version--it's 20 minutes shorter but twice as spooky. --Jeff Shannon

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsBum-antennas! That's right, if you're reading right now ... you're a tracer-bum! By the way, while I'm telling you I'm laughing hysterically and pointing at you. Yes, I know that I can see, trust me though.

Inside, Freak Out is a heartfelt story of two best friends, Merv Doody (James Heathcote) and onkey (Dan Palmer), trying to make their home, the island of Redwater Cove, a better place. No, I'm lying. These two friends named Merv and onkey, but the storycenters on their pet project to take an unfortunate (and very effeminate) escaped mental patient under their wing and teaching him how to be a real serial killer. This is truly a noble cause. The world needs more good citizens like Merv and onkey.

It 's rare that I laugh so much a movie as I did during FREAK OUT. I think I literally broke a gut. It would certainly explain the stain on my chair. It 's so stupid and so absurd, but it is absolutely hilarious. It 's a goofy script, but at the same time is very intelligent. It 's a comic parody of classic horror films like The Evil Dead, Friday the 13th, and the like. Unlike movies like Scary Movie, is more than just a satire, much more than just a parody. These films are the focus of the gags and the plot seems more like an afterthought, while FREAK OUT gag uses to compliment a very funny story. So there's not much beneath the surface, and is far more natural to it. The jokes are available inclusters, many of them at random out of nowhere, but they are not forced into the throat of the public. Instead, they sneak up behind you.then smack you in the back of the head.

For an independent film, the most surprising aspect for me was the fact that the acting was great! Once I get used to the accents (most likely not be a problem for those in the United Kingdom), I was not distracted by the performance of anyone. Heathcote and Palmer have very good chemistry on screen (maybe more of usachieve?), and are quite believable as best buds. Heathcote is commendable as the lovable loser, and Palmer is a first-rate job as the annoying sidekick who more often than not, is not liable to get you into trouble. The dialogue is all delivered with ease and director Christian James does a fantastic job guiding the film from behind the camera. A lot of camera work expert, cleverly shot scenes, and the change of solid to make a visually stimulating journey, and really do much to makeyou forget this is not a big-budget production. And what is pleasing to the eye, it is equally pleasant to the ear. Work Composer Stuart Fox for the film is a sweet ear candy.

So what we have achieved so far? How about a great script, great music, solid acting, some ass piranhas, a pair of zombies, lots of horror parodies, and a serial killer who is a little light in his loafers. This is enough for me, I smell Oscar. No wait, it's me, I must have fouled me during the movie.Regardless, Freak Out is a winner and is intended to be a favorite of the fans!

Two horror nerd intersect with an escaped mental patient, and decide to create their own slaughter-psychopathic bent. Unfortunately for the duo, their student is more interrested in replicas of Dallas murder. Watch as she tries to turn a mild case of mental manner in a slaughter driven slasher, and realize that maybe it was a great idea ...

I love this movie, is a low budget / high concept of the indie horror-comedy that looks as professional as possible an independent film, whichactually manages to be fun.

The 2 Disc DVD is absolutely loaded with extra features. Including several short films and music videos for release. The commentary tracks are almost as fun as the film itself, an (almost) dedicated to the technical aspects of the film and the other with almost the entire cast.

This does not scare anyone, and if you're waiting ... Read comedy you're not even proper hemisphere. But if you are looking for a comedy madefor fans of horror, you can not go wrong.

This film is what it is, an attempt to make an amateur horror / comedy. There are some laughs, but to be honest they are few and far between, making the movie seem like it is 4 hours. Now I'm not saying that this is a bad film, but in the right hands could have been much better. A silly plot, lame special effects, unforgettable holiday-liner, and characters are all musts goofy B-movie, and this flick has it all, but for some reason a lot of jokes or gags did not transfer to film asas did the head of the director.

The writeup on the back of the box promises nudity, no one, except for a scene of a second of a woman who takes his shirt on a television screen that our hero is watching.

The mental patient has escaped a lot of fun and has some good moments, he is my favorite character in the film. I think the main problem with this film is that it only seems to go on and on with no end in sight. Maybe if a half-hour or 45 minutessenseless and pointless movies had been removed, this would be a great little movie now.

Recommended for fans of B-movie, but do not rush out and feel the need to buy it. If you have never seen this film, you have lived a full life.

I had high hopes for this, and I must admit I was a little 'disappointed. For some reason I can not put my finger on, did not quite deliver. Maybe it was too silly and unrealistic. Perhaps some of humor, being English, he went over my head.

The acting was great, all three "stars" done their part to the end. For a low-budget, the lighting of the camera, and the sound were all great, as were the sets. Horror fans, presumably the film is oriented, weappreciate the tributes paid to such classics as "Evil Dead", "Friday the 13th" and "Psycho." At one point I thought he was going to take advantage of the "exploitation of serial killer" angle as "Natural Born Killers", but did not go there. Instead it went .... I do not know exactly where.

Basically it was nice, very unusual, but nowhere in the league of "Shaun of the Dead" and "Slither" as horror comedy.
