Creature From the Black Lagoon (Universal Studios Classic Monster Collection) Overview

Scientists drug and capture the creature, who becomes enamored with the head scientist's female assistant (Julie Adams). The lonely creature, "a living amphibious missing link," escapes and kidnaps the object of his affection. Chief scientist (Richard Carlson) then launches a crusade to rescue his assistant ans cast the ominous creature back to the depths from where he came. Well-acted and directed, and with Bud Westmore's brilliantly designed monster, Creature From The Black Lagoon remains an enduring tribute to the imaginative genius of its Hollywood creators.

Creature From the Black Lagoon (Universal Studios Classic Monster Collection) Specifications

Jack Arnold's horror classic The Creature from the Black Lagoon spawned not one but two iconic images: the web-footed humanoid gill-man with a hankering for women and the leggy, luscious Julia Adams, the object of his desire, swimming the lagoon in a luminous white bathing suit. Not since King Kong has the "beauty and the beast" theme been portrayed in such sexually charged (though chaste) terms. Arnold turns an effectively B-movie plot--a small expedition up a remote Amazon river captures a prehistoric amphibian man, who escapes to wreak havoc on the team and kidnap his bathing beauty--into a moody, stylish, low-budget feature. The jungle exteriors turn from exotic to treacherous when the creature blocks their passage and strands them in the wilds. Much of the film is shot underwater, where the murky dark is animated by shimmering shards of sunlight, creating images both lovely and alien (the studio-built sets of the creature's underground lair are far less naturalistic, but serve their purpose). As with most of Arnold's '50s genre films, he's saddled with a less than magnetic leading man (in this case the colorless but stalwart Richard Carlson) and a conventional script, but he overcomes such limitations by creating a vivid and sympathetic monster (helped immeasurably by a marvelous suit of scales and fins) and establishing a mood thick with atmosphere. The film was originally shot in 3-D. --Sean Axmaker

Teenage Monster

Teenage Monster Review

This is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen, but then again, I have a distorted sense of humor. The monster's name is Charles and I saw the film, I could not understand a word he said. visits later (it's addictive, right?) I'm beginning to understand what Charles has said clearly.

One night, after having slaughtered a whole herd of cows, his mother asked him what he had to say for themselves. Charles replies: "Sorry." It was the only word funniestI've heard in a movie. Completely ridiculous.

Although this film is not for everyone, if you have a distorted sense of humor, can only be the ticket movies at home for you.

Teenage Monster Overview

A rare fusion of the Old West, gothic horror and science fiction. Rays from a mysterious meteor kill one man and infect his teenage son with a mutating werewolf-like malady. The "Meteor Monster" goes on a murderous killing binge and terrorizes the countryside as the sheriff and townspeople watch in horror. One of the last films of legendary special effects make-up artist, Jack Pierce, who created the original Boris Karloff make-up in "Frankenstein" and "The Mummy."

CHARLES ! - Suedehead - the Midwest USA
This is by far one of the most original and entertaining films of the 50s it was B Sci-Fi. This is so that the only science fiction film unique is that with a mixture of Westerners in it. It 'also unique in the way a "teenage monster" will be presented.
I give this movie three stars, because at $ 10, I think it was worth every penny. I bought this about 3 months after reading a review on it and felt here $ 10 is worth trying, and had taken a good shot! I looked over4 times. It 's fast and gets to the point. The acting is actually not bad and much to see and is more like a game rather than a film. I do not want to give too much, but when you see who is really guilty? Behind every man or woman is a monster teen sneaky!

Faint praise. Very faint praise. - Doghouse King - Omaha, NE United States
Teenage Monster is not a good movie. I bought it as a fan Anne Gwynne, hoping for some campy midnight-movie chills. However, this film is tedious and almost sad in its clumsiness. Where other films can triumph despite the limitations, this is a scenario too poor and ambitious, not enough to be fun.

The liner notes to explain many of the films, the problems, there were reasons why some talented people, cranking out a film of this cruddy. One of its few virtues is good deal of Gwynne (alsohatedhatedhated although the film) as the mother of a monster and Gloria Castillo as a manipulative vixen leading to final fall of the monster.

The monster is unscary, played by a man of 50 years, with his boots to make it appear larger. And most of her dialogue was defined as the grunts and whistles, so it's more like a brutal murderess, think like one being. It would be good, except that sometimes one can speak quite well, because the script hasconvey a point. I could buy the questionable idea that women around him understood his incomprehensible, but the inconsistency grated on me.

These apparent contradictions of the film is the lack of direction and stagnant atmospheric creepy. The sum is a kind of wearing.

Side note, is called Meteor Monster almost everywhere on the net, but goes by his alternate title Teenage Monster on the cover. This is the kind of odd measure, as many people involved with this filmProbably the hope that it remains hidden.

The DVD transfer is excellent. The fans are Teenagers From Space, Robot Monster, Carnival of Souls, Giant From the Unknown, and the cosmic man. They are the best part of the disc.
