Halloween: 30th Anniversary Box Set Specifications

Halloween is as pure and undiluted as its title. In the small town of Haddonfield, Illinois, a teenage baby sitter tries to survive a Halloween night of relentless terror, during which a knife-wielding maniac goes after the town's hormonally charged youths. Director John Carpenter takes this simple situation and orchestrates a superbly mounted symphony of horrors. It's a movie much scarier for its dark spaces and ominous camera movements than for its explicit bloodletting (which is actually minimal). Composed by Carpenter himself, the movie's freaky music sets the tone; and his script (cowritten with Debra Hill) is laced with references to other horror pictures, especially Psycho. The baby sitter is played by Jamie Lee Curtis, the real-life daughter of Psycho victim Janet Leigh; and the obsessed policeman played by Donald Pleasence is named Sam Loomis, after John Gavin's character in Psycho. In the end, though, Halloween stands on its own as an uncannily frightening experience--it's one of those movies that had audiences literally jumping out of their seats and shouting at the screen. ("No! Don't drop that knife!") Produced on a low budget, the picture turned a monster profit, and spawned many sequels, none of which approached the 1978 original. Curtis returned for two more installments: 1981's dismal Halloween II, which picked up the story the day after the unfortunate events, and 1998's occasionally gripping Halloween H20, which proved the former baby sitter was still haunted after 20 years. --Robert Horton

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsI can not comment on this set like the one I got in New Zealand, had the first 5 movies Halloween it.I brought the curse of Michael Myers separated by Amazon to complete the other two set.The H20 and Resurrection, first I had.The symbol is a film that was copied from the very late 70s up to current films.Watching recently, I wonder what all the fuss was about, it seems pretty lame now, but still a good 2 film.Halloween begins where the first term ,I probably enjoyed more than the original. What were thinking of Halloween with the season of the witch, the film has nothing to do with the Halloween series but slapped a tag on it-must be installed on the name with that one. The other two what to ask where you were heading with the little girl ends up taking over from Michael series.A and what crazy connection laughable.H20 druid I found I did enjoy in heading back to the roots were longer, with Jamie Lee in it. Thewriters did not link any of the storylines from previous films with this though, I guess they thought the younger generation would not have seen those films, and who cares anyway.I did enjoy Resurrection and saw the new Halloween Which was ok, but really now how to close this series have gone on a bit 'long hours.

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsThink of the positives - C. Rabin -
While most fans were probably more than in this package, think like this ... This has Halloween with 12 minutes of footage in more tv, going from one new DVD on Amazon for around 40 U.S. dollars. This package is actually a few dollars more or less convenient. So buy this, and you can keep the DVD, or if you already have them, sell them individually here on Amazon:)

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsNot All There! - AldoFan -
For those who are thinking of all the Halloween movies so far to be very clear, this overpriced version includes:

Halloween (three versions of the original masterpiece: Restored, enlarged, and Blu Ray)
Halloween 4 The Return of Michael Myers
Halloween 5 The Revenge of Michael Myers
Halloween: 25 Years Of Terror (Disc Documentary)
Cheap Mask

Three film, a doc, a mask, $ 45. That is all.

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsGood starter for those that don't already own any - chemosh6969 -
I will not complain as others have done what the records are here already available elsewhere. I never got a DVD before so I found this set on sale and is a perfect starter set for someone who is starting a collection of Halloween.

The Eye (Two-Disc Special Edition + Digital Copy) Overview

Sydney Wells is blind and has been so since a childhood tragedy. After undergoing surgery to restore her sight she learns to see again. But soon after, unexplainable shadowy and frightening images start to haunt her. Not knowing if they are an aftermath of surgery, her mind adjusting to sight, her imagination, or something horrifyingly real, Sydney is soon convinced that her anonymous eye donor has somehow opened the door to a terrifying world only she can now see.

The Eye (Two-Disc Special Edition + Digital Copy) Specifications

Jessica Alba can see dead people in The Eye, the umpteenth Hollywood remake of an Asian horror film. The source material is Korean directors Danny and Oxide Pang's chilling 2002 feature of the same name, and the remake (by French directors David Moreau and Xavier Palud, who made 2006's Them) sticks to the basic facts of the original. Here, Alba is a blind concert musician who undergoes a corneal transplant; the catch is that while the operation restores her sight, it also allows her to glimpse the spirits of the dead that pass among the living, as well as the underworld figures that bring them to the beyond. The frustration and terror of Alba's predicament makes for a compelling story, but while the film is executed with the utmost of professionalism, the scares (the picture's raison d'etre) are delivered in the same ham-fisted manner as any big-budget horror film of the last few years. The result is another disappointing American remake that underscores how the international film community has become more successful at delivering yet another of our most quintessential film genres. -- Paul Gaita

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsI saw the Korean version of The Eye online, and found it to be very confusing (and pointless), sometimes. In that version, I felt like some of the scariest moments were just thrown in without explanation. However, this version does not explain well the reasons of fear. This is a film where fear will make you jump. It is not blood, and is a kind of action film. Jessica Alba makes a great job of acting like she is blind, and his reaction to suddenly being able to seeperfect sense. I like how they kept in that part of the boy looking for his report card. ;) I prefer this version to the Korean one, although it is heavily based on it. I would recommend viewing both films. I am buying this movie from Amazon, because my first copy that I bought from a grocery store had some scratches on the disc. It 's definitely a movie to watch many times.

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsHorror and Drama - Petra Calman - Mt. Hood, Oregon, USA
This film is a good mix of horror, drama and thrillers. Jessica Alba plays a talented musician names of Sydney who has lost the sight in early childhood. Sydney has the chance to get the rear view through a donor. She is so happy to see again and the surgery went very smoothly, but soon things begin to happen and I do not know whether they are real or just a dream. Decided to find out who the donor of her eyes was. Surprising twists to the end. Very good film acting and took myattention to the end.

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsNeither scary or interesting - zck7592 -
When you could see the previews you may think that "The Eye" is a scary movie. But this is not the case! "The Eye" is not afraid at all, which is probably why the plot is not interesting enough to even care what is happening.

"The Eye" is about Sydney Wells (Jessica Alba), who has been blind since a tragedy early in life. He has a great passion for music, which feeds his desire to see music, not just heard. Sydney decides to have a double corneal transplant, whichrestores sight. While she is recovering from the operation begins to see things that are not there. Once this becomes a reoccurring factor, believes that the donor could be seen in a different world.

"The Eye" has never really held my interest at any point in the film. The film is a scary or interesting, at any level.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Overview

Blonde, bouncy Buffy (Kristy Swanson) is your typical high school cheerleader-- her goal is to "marry Christian Slater and die" and nothing gets in her way when it's time to shop. But all that changes when a strange man (Donald Sutherland) informs her she's been chosen by fate to kill vampires. With the help of a romantic rebel (Luke Perry), Buffy is soon spending school nights protecting L.A. from Lothos, the Vampire King (Rutger Hauer), his sidekick. Lefty (Paul Ruebens) and their determined gang of bloodsuckers. It's everything you'd expect from a teen queen in the Valley.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Specifications

Fran Rubel Kuzui's 1992 tongue-in-cheek vampire comedy is sugarcoated horror, an unusual mix of the cute and scary, with a splash of postmodern pop nonsense to give culture critics something to think about. Kristy Swanson plays a Valley Girl who learns she belongs to a line of ancient vampire killers. After training under the watchful eye of a mentor (Donald Sutherland), she becomes a spandex-wearing, kung-fu kicking, stake-stabbing babe and the mortal enemy of a narcissistic master vampire (Rutger Hauer). The accent is all on cheery attitude, though the action can be as authentically unnerving as any other halfway decent monster movie. Paul Reubens, formerly Pee-wee Herman, has a small role as Hauer's fanged familiar. --Tom Keogh

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsGreat teen movie. Valley Girls accurate, real air heads. Simple plot. Luke Perry's fourth film before SNL. Frist Hilary Swank film before it's done 90210. Do not expect much from this movie is 1992 and that is a laugh riot. It 's like the whole Buffyverse began.

Horror Movies Customer Reviewsi ordered this movie and instead of getting another one refund instead - bonnie collier -
I ordered this film was damaged and stopped and started and the voices are out of sync so instead of replacing the damaged goods all I got was a refund

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsI was just curious - K. Pease - Riverside, CA
I got this movie because I saw the TV show and wanted to see what the movie was like. This film is not so great and if not for the TV series, would probably fall off the face of the planet. Do yourself a favor and just try to rent somewhere.

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsIn The Words of Joss Whedon: "It was funny when I wrote it." - Pat Shand - Freeport, NY USA
As fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the television series know, this film from 1992 does not work as a prequel to the series. Creator Joss Whedon did write the script, but all the freshness and creativity has been sucked out by the director, the lines have been misread or misinterpreted the whole, and the production team alone has not got what Whedon was trying to say. After this introduction, comparisons between the film and the series will stop, but I just thought I'd warn anyone who mightJoss Whedon to be back at work, that this movie is nothing like watching Buffy, Joss. That can be found in the TV series and now the cartoons. But as for this film ...

One might think that this could be a lovely, movie cheese. One would think that the bittersweetness of a bad director Joss Whedon ruin the vision would fade once the movie starts. You might think that the film could be so bad that, like all the corniest movies, it would be fun because ofmanifest the cheesiness. But ... no. Scenes that should be hilarious - the death of a non long Paul Rubens - was so dreadfully unfunny I discussed seriously off the film, although there was only ten minutes left. Scenes that should be dramatic - Buffy "great victory" at the end, as the main scene of death - fell completely flat, due to misplaced pauses dramatic readings of bad lines well, and - Sorry, all - in Kristy Swanson as bad.
While the film is devoid of caprice or a true understanding of tissue Whedon feminist message in the script, is not bad. As one critic said, has paved the way for things to come, because without the film, there was never the show. Also, Luke Perry gave a beautiful performance as the pike, and the talent of Hilary Swank has managed to shine through the nastiness of this film, despite how small his role was. But apart from the actors, some gems in the script, and arandom hilarious cameo by then no body of Ben Affleck, this film is worth seeing, no matter how much you love the "REAL Buffy the Vampire Slayer."

3 / 10

A Perfect Getaway (Unrated Director's Cut) [Blu-ray] Overview

Milla Jovovich, Steve Zahn, Timothy Olyphant and Kiele Sanchez star in this gripping suspense-thriller about an island vacation that turns deadly. Honeymooners Cliff (Zahn) and Cydney (Jovovich) are hiking a jungle trail to a remote Hawaiian beach when they hear that police have uncovered a grisly murder scene and the suspected killers are somewhere nearby. Unsure whether to stay or flee, the pair joins two other couples and things start to go horribly wrong. Far from civilization, a brutal battle for survival begins where danger lurks along every twist of the path and no one is who they seem. From director David Twohy comes the suspenseful film critics call, “a clever, heart-pounding thriller” (Peter Hartlaub, San Francisco Chronicle).

A Perfect Getaway (Unrated Director's Cut) [Blu-ray] Specifications

The good old B-movie flame burns bright in A Perfect Getaway, David Twohy's rip-snorting guessing game about a vacation gone very, very bad. It must have sounded nice in the planning stages: an isolated honeymoon trek to a remote beach on Kauai, with nothing but backpacks, Hawaiian breezes, and the occasional pleasant encounter with a fellow wayfarer on the hiking trail. That was the plan for newlyweds Cliff and Cydney, anyway, before a shocking murder in Honolulu, the night before the hike, raised the red flag of suspicion. What we're left with is six couples on a lonely trail in paradise, a murderer (but probably two murderers), and a great deal of anxiety. Cliff and Cydney are played by Steve Zahn and Milla Jovovich; Timothy Olyphant and Kiele Sanchez are a pair of friendly but vaguely disturbing trailmates; Chris Hemsworth and Marley Shelton are a downright creepy couple who won't go away. Twohy has a knack for infectious concepts (see also Pitch Black and The Arrival) and this one is grabby; he's also got a mysterious ability to play the premise straight yet somehow have a great deal of fun with it (for instance, there's much trail talk about the rules of screenwriting, which comes across as playful rather than clumsily self-conscious). The casting works, even if it's difficult for Milla Jovovich to seem in danger from anybody else in the world. Timothy Olyphant is the standout, as a former Special Ops soldier whose survival skills are impressive-bordering-on-scary. Although the film is undeniably built as a whodunit, worry less about the big "reveal" than about having a good time with fun pulp material. Come to think of it, though, the reveal is well played too. --Robert Horton

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsLongest Scooby Doo episode EVER - Almost Home - The place where there is no darkness.
Hey, what do you know? Here's yet another "yellow" promising a stunning twist! The problem with any movie trying to out-twist The Sixth Sense or the original saw is that the possibility of such a torsion is limited. Take that knowledge in a movie where there are two pairs and one is probably a couple of psychopaths and have a 50/50 shot right out of the bag guess Which it is. When the "twist" explained the viewer is exposed in a series of flashbacks that seemserve a few purposes. First it seems that the writer / directory Twohy feels that his audience is too stupid to follow this story and, therefore, he must explain again and again for about 20 minutes in the middle of the film. The other is that maybe he realized at some point as weak and foolish the twist was and is trying to legitimize his story hoping that repetition will hypnotize the viewer into acceptance. In both cases the point of being offensive to thethe intelligence of the public. There really is not much to redeem this film in any way. The landscape is beautiful. I suppose on that note I would recommend Planet Earth: The Complete BBC Series [] Blu-ray. Timothy Olyphant is a really fun character, but that is a novelty in those days. Only has a likability factor automatically injected into the characters he has played as of late. The film drags on and turns out really embarrassing as Steve Zahn, Steve-Zahns extends itsChops as extremely limited in a cut-and-paste caricature of a man leading. Milla Jovovich gives one of his worst performances portraying a character apparently no sense of self or any justification whatsoever. It could have been worse, however, the husband of Milla could wrote and directed it. This is really a shot at a star but Olyphant get a star himself. Overall it is a waste of time.

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsCorny - W. freeman - fairmont, wv
Movie really moves along, like the slow pace of a tortoise, the acting is pretty cardboard life as a TV movie. I really like Steve Zahn, but he does not bring any comic to film, not necessarily foreseeable, but also to sense what is coming. Making the killers obviously has never been something that has worked so effectively is that they were not the murderers if that makes sense. The whole movie is basically just a mesh with semi-thriller that does not go, but where low. On anothernote, the couple wed in new movie Weds and travel the known paths is very inaccurate, especially since not go on trails with 1,000 dangerous drop off with out a guide or gears. The fact that all couples in the film are going in the same direction and do the right field line near the ocean in a storm is not quite convincing. No Rangers, no driving, no sign and really no point in going anywhere. So the big island as the murderers would be calledit end up as small, by any chance? Maybe, maybe not. But when you start to enter the meat and potatoes of the movie truly does not care either. Poor dialogue, screenplay cheese and a really horrible story make you want to escape, this movie is. What a wreck. 2 stars for the beauty of Hawaii!

Dead Ringer Overview

One twin murders another and takes her place, but people begin to suspect something is wrong.
Genre: Feature Film-Drama
Rating: NR
Release Date: 10-AUG-2004
Media Type: DVD

Dead Ringer Specifications

Hot on the heels of What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?, Bette Davis slipped neatly into another juicy thriller. This time, instead of co-starring with Joan Crawford, she got to play opposite... herself. Dead Ringer casts Davis as a wealthy (and nasty) widow, and also as her slatternly (but good) twin sister, long estranged. When the poor sister discovers the depths of her sib's evil, she takes a dramatic step that will test her skills as a thespian. Davis's old leading man, Paul Henreid, directs this material at a leaden pace, but Davis gives such a brazen performance, she pulls it through. Plus, the moments of high trash (a red-hot poker rammed into a hand, a lethal dog attack) are easily savored. Peter Lawford's seedy playboy and Karl Malden's stolid cop fill out the key supporting roles--not that anybody else matters. This is Bette Davis's world; everybody else is just visiting. --Robert Horton

Horror Movies Customer Reviews

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsDead Ringer was and still is one of my all time favorite, but the more I watch the film the more I realize that he knew it was Edith who was going to run. No matter what she could not stay away. Like the police captain said he was obsessed. Would find stupid reasons to go to the palace Delorca just looking at it. Then when he pulled that number in the palace, I do not know Jim? This was swept away, but then the damage was already done. He could not leavehead when he was escorted off the gas chamer what he said? He knew when he was going to mess with your head, had to live with the fact that he had signed his death sentence. He would not let go no matter what. He was obsessed. Watch the expression on his face when he says "I Delorca Margaret Sargeant, as she says Edith would never hurt a fly" And 'the way she said cynically. I think he knew at that moment was Edith.
Could be wrong, just my opinion. Probably will return to the palace and we all knew that the only question was the butler and the dog, the girl who knew too believe,

I've always been a big fan of Bette Davis' work (she's from my hometown, Lowell, MA) and really enjoyed "What happened to Baby Jane?", "Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte" and "The Nanny". I had somehow missed this little gem of a duel role as Bette Davis. It is worth noting how technology has just arrived back in 1960 and this thriller film is well acted, black and white,
large sets, has only a few can create something to this day.
Just sit back and enjoy twoBette for the price of one!

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsBETTE DAVIS CLASSIC!! - Sherry N. Brantley - Chandler, AZ. USA
Bette Davis gives his all in this second performance to play the dual role of being a twin! A pitiful poor and impoverished and other ridiculously rich astronomical oozing from his pores! Its home to a house says it all! Feeling rejected and betrayed years ago, to have his sister 'steal her man "and live the life he only dreamed of, and then find there is murder, lies and deceit Involved in the fabric of That lifestyle makes Bette great job of removingthe nuances of the characters, both in its role as twins! I watched with my daughters, so she could see what 'Movies are MADE OF REAL,' and as someone who actually has acting skills and experience portrays a character ... with more than just good looks! If you're a Bette Davis, this film may just convert!
