Jason and the Argonauts Overview

Jason, son of the King of Thessaly, sails on the Argo to the land of Colchis to capture the Golden Fleece.

Jason and the Argonauts Specifications

Arguably the most intelligently written film to feature the masterful stop-motion animation of Ray Harryhausen, Jason and the Argonauts is a colorful adventure that takes full advantage of Harryhausen's "Dynarama" process. Inspired by the Greek myth, the story begins when the fearless explorer Jason (Todd Armstrong) returns to the kingdom of Thessaly to make his rightful claim to the throne, but the gods proclaim that he must first find the magical Golden Fleece. Consulting Hera, the queen of gods, Jason recruits the brave Argonauts to crew his ship, and they embark on their eventful journey. Along the way they encounter a variety of mythic creatures, including the 100-foot bronze god Talos, the batlike Harpies, the seven-headed reptilian Hydra, and an army of skeletons wielding sword and shield. This last sequence remains one of the finest that Harryhausen ever created, and it's still as thrilling as anything from the age of digital special effects. Harryhausen was the true auteur of his fantasy films, and his brilliant animation evokes a timeless sense of wonder. Jason and the Argonauts is a prime showcase for Harryhausen's talent--a wondrous product of pure imagination and filmmaking ingenuity. --Jeff Shannon

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsMovie - 4.5

Perhaps one of the most underrated of his works, but without doubt the most well-received, Ray Harryhuasen Jason and the Argonauts, probably ranks as one of the most iconic fantasy films of Greek and a lasting testimony to the magic of the screen and the influence of the 'man himself, even more than Clash of the Titans. How Clash, is another of those beautifully cast production with that slight vibration to it Thespian and a lot of fun visual effects that made Harryhausenseems so ahead of his time. Compared to the Clash looked recently, I discovered that Jason did for the theater is much better in fiction and screenwriting. Both have their fair share of the jumble of Greek mythology and an adventurous quest for their heroes. But as a production deficit of nearly two decades, Jason was clearly something to see, then, contrary to Clash, who barely looked more advanced. However, it is still to make a great nostalgia for those fantasy worlds andimagination of many young at the time. I'm not quite sure how to describe it, but every time watching Harryhausen flicks I have this feeling of "truly inspired," if that makes sense. So many movies today rely heavily on CG effects and other links, which are not bad, mind you. But to see something as simple as Stop Motion, I am surprised at how good it is in reality still seems, despite the differences in technology between now and then. That said, I think this was myfirst time actually seeing Jason to the end. For a movie made in the '60s, I must say that I enjoyed quite a bit '. Apart from the graphics, has some very good elements of adventure, drama, and the plot. But what's with the sudden end? Just when things really started to exciting fight to the end of the skeleton, is over. From what I've read the myth, however, the real story is quite violent and tragic, and probably would not have settled for this feature G-rated.Oh, well.

Video - 4.5

I've never seen on DVD and have only seen bits and pieces on TV when I was a kid, so do not really have any kind of material for comparison. However, having seen Harryhausen's Clash on BD, I can say that Jason seems infinitely better. Being a low-budget film of the '60s with some very tight constraints of work, I think Jason looks phenomenal in those circumstances. The colors do not seem very lively, but have a very natural qualitythem, while the contrast really gives tones and shades object a kind of "earthiness". black levels and shadow delineation are not very deep, but provide an accurate representation of everything on the screen. detail of the images is what surprises me most. There is a thin layer of grain theater that really gives the film an old-school look, but in high definition. You can see a lot of little texture in costume, the lines and cracks in the wood, and a nice little sheen effectduring the shooting day. The big difference I see between this and The Clash is the noise level. As clear as the picture is of Jason, it seems there is no trace of DNR, and I am amazed that a film of this caliber can look this good. The Stop Motion sequences and matt will definitely stick out like a sore thumb, but for the age of the film and all the other things, this is as good as you can look sans the possibility of image manipulation.

Audio - 4.5

Evenan update is surprising that DTS-HD 5.1 track. I'm sure the film had its limits, but the fact that Sony has gone through the trouble of remastering from scratch is a good show of effort in my book. Dialogue remains clear through the central channel, while a majority of the sound escapes from the sides. The rears occasionally pick up some effects and Bernard Herrmann's wonderful score and provide a good sense of immersion and directionality. Moments that particularly caught my earwere on their way through the water. I swear I thought it was raining outside and the wind was on my window, but was actually the sound of wind, waves, sloshing water, and the creaking of the ship in the movie. I never thought a lossless track remastered 60s could make fun of it. High and low ends are managed well through the music, voices and noises creature as well. There are a number of LFEs, though. They exist in the form of verysound of light, but these limited sources to work, I can say that I'm not disappointed at all. Bravo to the people of Sony for making this fine piece with no loss of data as possible.

Extra - 4.5

This includes many features that are both BD-exclusive and completely new to me. By far the most interesting piece is the audio commentary with Tony Dalton, and man himself, Ray Harryhausen. The comment was made in collaboration with the remastering of the film BD, soHarryhausen also got to see her work in HD. The song has a very good pace and provides a wealth of information and factoids behind the film, Harryhausen's career, and those little curiosities that make you really appreciate the kind of guy he is. It 'friendly and fun to listen to, because something about 90 at the time of registration and still kickin'. The second commentary features director guru Peter Jackson and his visual effects wizard Randall WilliamCook. They go deep beyond the nostalgia of the film and what it meant to grow up idolizing their Harryhausen for his work, as well as giving general advice on the technical aspects of the film. It makes a nice sort of comment "tribute", but I'm surprised and happy that they went out of their way just to do it in the first place. The rest of the extras are interviews, retrospectives and presentations (one narrated by Leonard Nimoy!) Looking back and reflecting onthe inspiration provided by Harryhausen work, what he did for the film industry, and the story of his career. I do not think I've ever been so immersed in a range of information for a man, but I definitely found it all very interesting, though.

Overall - 4.5

All his creations may have been before me, but I personally find the work of Ray Harryhausen to be fascinating. His attention to detail, love for the process, and imagination are terribledone wonders over the decades, and it's in honor of discovering itself as a sort of young puppy. With a great sense of adventure, good A / V quality, and a host of special features lighting, Jason and the Argonauts is highly recommended to fans of the fantasy genre, and is a must for connoisseurs of cinema.

Jason sailed in Blu-ray in my living room faster than I thought it would. E 'condition is perfect.
I first saw Jason as a young teenager when he won awards in theaters. In subsequent decades, sometimes I remember how much fun I had as a child watching Ray Harryhausen's amazing special effects to the big screen.
I am very pleased to add this edition Blu-ray for my film library. Now if only they would stop the Sony Corporation
dragging his feet and put inBlu-ray movie that I consider the most amazing and breathtaking film
ever made, Lawrence of Arabia, I'd be a happy man.

The film is a classic, no doubt there. However, if you have a good blueray player as my LG, then get this movie in blueray is a waste of money.Yes there are very few scenes where you can see the difference, but 98% of films in standard DVD is just perfect . Again I can not speak for the blueray players, LG player but I really makes the DVD look almost as BlueRay quality anyway.

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsWhile the state tests do not do as great a job as other films (Bang Bang You're Dead, elephants) of its type to illustrate the fragile world of adolescents and their bullies and deadly results, Evidence State does not present a realistic picture of a which many other reviewers fail to mention: callousness and indifference to the reality of death. In a world where death is glorified in the media at every turn, the idea that the teen characters in this film have become numb to the concept ofdeath and feel that the idea of death as a group would be "cool" is surprising, but very real. There is a lack of care about the finality of death that resonates throughout the film that is much more convincing than the story part of a group of other agenda (the shooting of his bullies with extreme prejudice). There is certainly much to talk about with this film. Should be viewed by families with teenagers on the right with all the other films in this category. These directors aretrying to open our eyes and we owe it to our children to wake up and really listen. 3.75 stars

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsAbsolutley wonderful - Chelsea - CA, USA
This movie is so terrible. It has a well-planned plot and impresses at the end. What scares me is that much of what they said they could actually make sense of and understand. I like it. I could watch over and over again.

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsSpare me - Cath - Los Angeles, CA USA
This is not a good movie. In reality it is not. It's like a Lifetime movie. The acting is good by most actors. Douglas Smith is great (but his character is just annoying), as Majandra Delfino. But, Alexa Vega was badly cast in this role, and her acting is up soon.

The plot is far too many holes and not so interesting. It makes little sense at all. This is an attempt to me indie and dark, and can not really.

Wedding Slashers Overview

Jenna dreams of finding the perfect man and getting married. When she plans to marry Alex, the terrible secrets from her past have come back to torment her.

Horror Movies Customer Reviews

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsLately, there has been a lack of truly great horror film B on the market. The most direct to DVD horror was boring or of poor quality. Therefore, I was not expecting much when I had Slashers wedding. However, I was pleasantly surprised by one of the BEST B horror movies of all time. Then again, it is fair to say that the best B horror film, since this is also better than most of what was in the theater, too.

The film opens with a gruesome double murder infirst six minutes, and gory thrill never leaves there. All 80 minutes of this film are full of brutal murder, plot twists and snappy dialogue funny. The characters are 'real' in-depth enough that by the end of the film are attached to them in a way. Writing and directing are brilliant. I can not say enough nice things to what this was made on a small budget.

The plot, without giving too much away, surrounding the pain and the loss of a girl, Jenna, wasin his life. Death surrounds it, so it's no surprise when his marriage turns into a murderfest. The reason is the twist, and I will not be the one to spoil that for you, the viewer.

Look, you can see my reviews and others say, I'm pretty honest. If a movie sucks, so to speak. But Wedding Slashers is the surprise smash hit of the year and a must for those who love horror, especially horror with humor and bite.

Recommended maximum.

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsI cry at every wedding... - T. Steffes - South Dakota, USA
and the fact that I wasted my time watching this terrible excuse for a film. The plot (if you can call it that) was full of holes, and takes bits and pieces of other bad horror movie. The 'agency' was a joke, and it made me laugh, sometimes I would have to be servile. Clothes ... I could go to, but my word for it, this film is a D, and I wonder to 5 stars, and I'd bet that they are connected or related to someone who is, in this film. This is the logicalexplanation, please save your money on this!

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsThe Best Horror Film of 2006 - Michael Taibleson - Chicago, IL
First of all, I just want to make it clear that this film very much. I've seen it 4 times. You must be crazy to think that this will be 100 million dollars in Hollywood. The point of watching a movie is fun, and if your not entertained by Wedding Slashers obviously have no sense of humor. Technically it's supposed to be a horror movie, but I would classify it as more of a comedy. Most of the acting is so-so, but Jessica Kinney carries this film quite well. Ifyou want a good laugh, and the ability to listen to some of the most memorable and funny lines in movie history, Slashers marriage is perfect. And you probably do not spend more than $ 5.00 with shipping for the film. You have nothing to lose, I promise.

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsAbsolutely incompetent - Eric McGill - San Diego County, CA, USA
I saw Slashers wedding in a local video store that was going out of business and selling all their stocks. With the title and the cover, it seemed that it would be a good movie bad cheese, stupid, and fun to watch. And it was - except for the "fun".

It 'hard to describe how terrible it is. The story makes little sense, even after all the twists are "explained". Nothing of any character does not seem justified, despite the fact that the characters sometimes inexplicably explain theirreasons aloud. The story behind the bad is totally ridiculous and unbelievable. And every aspect of production - writing, acting, even the lighting - is uniformly incompetent. I've seen better production values in works of community college students (I'm not kidding about that!).

For some reason, people seem to praise the scenes where the bad guys ramble on a lot of irrelevant nonsense in some attempt to play horrible pain. None of these scenes (and theremany are) really have anything funny happen to them, they are useless in the story, and ultimately only waste time. And it's pretty sad that a film of 80 minutes it feels so long.

If you're watching this movie, or are expected to be good or bad and scary and fun. In any case, it will be terribly disappointed. Avoid it.

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsWedding Slashers does not cut the cake..or your fear - CJR - Pennsylvania, USA
Neither Mary nor her lamb could save this movie, or want to see. The actors and actress' are inspired, armor, and emotionless. The plot is awful and the direction is the equivalent of a movie at home. Do not rent this film unless you are looking for a smile and a very exaggerated gore.

However, the film's first couple of minutes to follow the life of a newlywed couple. The acting and plot in this part of the movie is tolerable and even abit 'funny. The problem is, its basically just an open fear rather than an opener in the same plot. Beyond these first three minutes of the film, "Wedding Slashers" is a rotten piece of cake.

Note: I never rate anything a star or two. Everything has its flaws, but this is beyond bearable. A usually easy pleaser was dissatisfied.

Starman [Blu-ray] Overview

Genre: Sci-Fi/Fantasy
Rating: PG
Release Date: 11-AUG-2009
Media Type: Blu-Ray

Starman [Blu-ray] Specifications

While most movie buffs are likely to call Halloween the best movie from John Carpenter, others--die-hard romantics and anyone who cried while watching E.T.--might vote in favor of the director's 1984 hit Starman. It's easily Carpenter's warmest and most beguiling film, and the only one that ever earned an Oscar nomination. That honor went specifically to Best Actor nominee Jeff Bridges for his performance as an alien visitor to Earth who is knocked off course and must take an interstate road trip to rendezvous with a mothership from his home planet. To complete this journey he assumes the physical form of the dead husband of a Wisconsin widow (Karen Allen) who responds first with fear, then sympathy, and finally love. Carpenter's graceful strategy is to switch the focus of this E.T.-like film from science fiction to a gentle road-movie love story, made believable by the memorable performances of Bridges and Allen. It's a bit heavy-handed with tenacious government agents who view the Starman as an alien threat (don't they always?), but Carpenter handles the action with intelligent flair, sensitivity, and lighthearted humor. If you're not choked up during the final scene, well, you just might not be human. --Jeff Shannon

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsStarman I saw not long after it came out and always be remembered as bittersweet story was and how great were the main actors. I recently bought and watched it again and it's still a great movie and it's aged well. The background story and the acting is so good. It is not a movie to watch when you're PMS-ing. I choked at several points and it was a disaster for the end. Only a great chick film to add to your collection.

Great movie for a long time ago, some funny scenes, great story line you want to watch this until the end, then maybe again, my favorite scene that puts a lump in my throat is the scene of deer.

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsBe Patient; Don't Buy Fullscreen - M. LaBin - TX USA
John Carpenter is known only to shoot in anamorphic widescreen (except for his work on TV rare). He is a master of the 16:9 aspect ratio and scale plays an important role in his films. Why is this in fullscreen is anyone guess. And why did not the director's commentary - which is already available in Europe - is really weird. This is a strange movie for Carpenter, but he pulled out well ... worth a serious look but it is also worth waiting for a widescreen version that keeps so you can see all thefilm that contains the comment and usually helpful.

Starman is the best, felt the same as when I saw Avatar, a beautiful love story, action, and is also ashamed of being human.

Horror Movies Customer Reviews

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsPop Skull is a small film about a small town love story that goes very, very bad. What makes this film so interesting is that the director and lead actor Adam Wingard Layne Hughes tell this story in a highly stylistic - the film is full of stuttering jump cuts, burns, photographs, audio and trippy jump in the timeline . While watching the film you really feel like you're witnessing the events through the eyes of the protagonist out junkie. Trying to figure out what is real andwhat is hallucination is part of the fun.

This is one of my favorite art-horror film of all time. Although it might not be for everyone, fans of David Lynch, Larry Clark and experimental Soderbergh can love.

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsScary as hell - P. Katz - LA, CA
This film is a total trip of mind, I could not sleep after watching it. Pop Skull is not for the faint of heart, but for fans of horror seriously.

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsAppropriately titled - Alex Faber - Northern NJ United States
Let me say that my vote below in no way reflects on the visual quality of the film. For a true indie, low-budget feature film that shined with strong, credible acting, high production value, impressive camerawork and directing, which led to being a truly shocking and disturbing film, full of strange angles, ranging from a bright and dark color palette and punches the audience with strobe flashes of images intercut. However, there is little or no story or character, andthis is the reason I watch the entire film: to see people and how they react and change when faced with situations of concern.

Lane Hughes plays the role of Daniel, a drug addict who is reeling from a recent break. That's pretty much it. For 89 minutes, it is high and hangs out with his friend Jeff and his girlfriend, Morgan. There's a little 'action towards the end, and the film thankfully does not feature the twist I thought it was coming, but the lack of story and character development leaves us witha lot of style, but very little in terms of substance. It 'an impressive piece of art, I think, and it helps that Morgan, played by Hannah Hughes, is beautiful, but this may have worked much better as a short. If you are looking for an experience, this is a pain, but I believe that films can be creative, fun. Unfortunately, this fails to achieve both.

The DVD is packaged in a standard Amaray-style DVD case without inserting the chapter, even if my copy hasinclude a card with a glossy color illustration apparently inspired by drugs. The film is presented in widescreen, and there are short films, trailers for eight other Halo movie, and a comment such as special features.
