The Last House on the Left (Unrated Collectors Edition) Overview

While on their way to a concert, two teenage girls are kidnapped and tortured by three escaped convicts.

The Last House on the Left (Unrated Collectors Edition) Specifications

Future Nightmare creator and Scream weaver Wes Craven's film debut is a primitive little production that rises above its cut-rate production values and hazy, grainy patina via its grimly affecting portrait of human evil infiltrating a middle-class household. The story is adapted from Ingmar Bergman's The Virgin Spring, but the film has more in common with Sam Peckinpah's Straw Dogs as it charts the descent of a harmless married couple into methodical killers. A quartet of criminals--a distorted version of the nuclear family--kidnaps a pair of teenage girls and proceeds to ravage, rape, torture, and finally brutally murder them in the woods, unwittingly within walking distance of their rural home. The killers take refuge in the girls' own home, but when the parents discover just who they are and what they've done, they plot violent retribution.

Along with George Romero's Night of the Living Dead and Tobe Hooper's Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Craven helped redefine American horror with this debut--all three movies portray modern society crumbling into madness and horror. But, unlike his fellow directors, Craven gives his film an uncomfortable verisimilitude, setting it squarely in the heartland of modern America. While at times it's awkward and inconsistent, with distracting comic interludes, his handling of the brutal horror scenes is unsettling, and the death of the daughter is an unexpectedly quiet and lyrical moment. --Sean Axmaker

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsThis film inticed me, disgusted me and surprised me in the 70s. It still amazes me what Craven did it with minimum budget and it's still a classic, even if a low-budget classic.

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsFools Gold. - T. Patmore - Somewhere in Madagascar
Many people claim that this film was a sort of cult - something equal with Mean Streets and The Evil Dead - a film by a great director, before sold out and became famous.

Do not be fooled - it's nothing like that!

This film is as scary, a plot of rubbish and old-fashioned sense of what is shocking. All of these are forgivable in a film like Nosferatu can be forgiven. However, there is something so typical Wes Craven in this film, as the latestA Nightmare on Elm Street, that makes things bad and 'shocking' when in fact they were not even very bad at that time.

I wish I could say that this was a diamond in the rough and, indeed, there are some redeeming quality in it (the chainsaw bit at the end). Unfortunately, his manner and in general the dialogue affectatious illucid say it deserves its status as a non-worship.

PS With the release of new version of Wes Craven's mind, you may be tempted to watch this. However, just because a film is being republished does not perform well. Personally, I think that reveals more of the director * * The lack of originality, and desire to earn money for nothing.
After all, he would re-release of The Shining or The Evil Dead? Dear God, I hope not!

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsWes Is the Master of Suck. - Austin Somlo - Vincentown, NJ

07/10: Since I have seen some horror movie shit today, the premise behind The Last House on the left is very familiar. Wes Craven puts substantially sadism heavy handed to contaminate two young women in order to create a picture of horror. Instead, the message behind The Last House on the Left is that rape women is fun. Everything I've seen in the photo was glorification. I could not see the look in horror The Last House on the Left, but rather be insultedwith the kind of thinking that Wes Craven presents. Judging on the production of The Last House on the Left, I thought the picture looked good, but too off-beat. I could not get out of reality as the dialogue is hammy, but to give credit, was much better than The Hills Have Eyes. As for the characters, I thought all did a pretty good job and did what they could do to make an effective framework, but they were one-dimensional at best. But the idea behind The Last House on the Leftnot a horror picture in my opinion. I mean, the movies I've seen before The Last House on the left was Henry: Portrait of a serial killer. For comparative purposes, Wes Craven comes off looking like a wannabe wrong. With its banner on The Last House on the Left manifesto, it says "It 's just a movie ... blah ... blah." Transport that message was to dissuade viewers from thinking that it was too frightening to think that the film was real. To be honest with you, I found the film terriblyboring to watch, let alone the terrifying feeling (which was zero). Taken from wiki, it says, "The opinion split with film critics, unsure whether the film is a strong affirmation of artistic trash or exploitation, or a combination of both. Audiences, however, flocked to see the film and, along with film such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, is credited with bringing a new sense of realistic violence in the modern horror film genre. " Ahh, interesting ... does not mean that someone behind the lastHouse on the Left actually committed similar crimes and / or perhaps has had first-hand experience of it? Why is it so important to a film like The Last House on the left and leave the victims, especially women raped, lasting feeling terrible? Some say that the scene of rape in The Last House on the left was the worst place in a movie, well, this is not true. As a matter of fact, there is almost no vision of rape in it. Death Wish 3 blows the doors off of The Last House on the left when youtalk about rape. Some say that The Last House on the left is a masterpiece. Yes, of course, is probably too ill to realize that they are too far removed from society to discern between right and wrong. Wes Craven is one of them. Gee whiz, how did this man manage to make films again and again? The only film in his resume is impressive Scream while almost everything else he did was tedious and banal amateur, who do not respect the idea of what a "horror movie" is. Anyone in the world canThe Last House on the Left do. All they have to do is get a couple of girls who will be happy to work with scenes of rape and earn money. What saved me in the last house on the left is my suspicion that the young cop until I was reiterated in the closing credits that it was actually Martin Kove. Dang, young men seemed childish. The title The Last House on the Left had me thinking: "Why is it called that?" Surely, if you were to go this way, it would be like .... The first houseright. Ahh ... Wes Craven, The Last House on the Left has boasted safely in my worst list directors. We can not run, period.

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsGlad I got it for just at WalMart. - Michael L. Emery - Las Vegas, NV
As a serious horror fan, I have heard of The Last House on the Left many times, even though he had never seen.
I found it on the shelf "$ 5 DVD" and since he had known as Wes Craven, Sean Cunningham and Steve Miner attached to it, I thought I had found a gem at a price of charcoal.

Having looked, I almost got exactly what I paid.

The acting is sometimes not all that important to me when it comes to horror, until the story and the effects are good.Unfortunately, I am very surprised that this is also considered a horror film, much less a horror classic.

Here's what displeasedmeabout this film:

1.) Acting has always seemed as if the actors had just gotten their time lines before the cameras.

2.) The story, while a good one, was exposed pretty badly ... people would stop speaking, but the scene would linger for several seconds, "graphic" scenes would suddenly cut to "comic" scenes or ascenes on a different part of the story, then return to scene graph "again. (Note that I put the words in quotes graphics and humor, it's because the scenes were neither graphic nor comic, but obviously tried), and there was never any moments in my vision that I felt any level of psychological drama or tense .

3.) The music was often cheerful, even in scenes that should have been dramatic. In fact, the music was just terrible allthrough this film.

4.) Plot holes! The Villans are shown in clothes that have gotten pretty dirty and untidy, their car had broken down so we are stuck in the woods, but when they go to Mari of the parent at home on the hill, which somehow managed to get clean almost business-like clothes, hair combed and no sign of dirt anywhere. This must have been a hell of a magic spring were splashing in the previous scene.
And the main female Villan (or is it"Villaness?) Can you switch from one kind of style," afro "hair, hair, and a couple of styles TIMES IN A FEW SECONDS between scenes!
And if I totally missed something, was never explained how the parents of Mari knew where to find their daughter.

There are several scenes of topless and bottomless, especially in the scenes of rapes and humiliation, and even those scenes are not done well.

This is really a bad film, made by guys who have much better luck for theusually later.

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsNow it all makes sense why society is what it is - Don't tread on me - North Carolina, USA
I remember seeing young people in line to see this film when it was released. I just dismissed as just another horror movie. Well, I came across this on HBO one night in a hotel. I looked out of a total of 20 minutes of it.

What were the younger people by going to see this piece of violent, nauseating shit? And 'now appropriate for our country, especially the young, is going down the toilet. I wonder if some of them were even old enough to view it (but received intheater, however). Wes Craven was far better to make the Nightmare series. At least those could be dismissed as science fiction.

This film is just bad acting, violence and mutilation, disturbing beyond words. If you like this kind of film, I ask for your soul. As you might enjoy seeing a girl brutally raped? If this goes down, lock you up before you make yourself (and hopefully get shot for it).

E.T. - The Extra-Terrestrial (Full Screen Collector's Edition) Overview

Steven Spielberg's 1982 hit about a stranded alien and his loving relationship with a fatherless boy (Henry Thomas) struck a chord with audiences everywhere, and it furthered Spielberg's reputation as a director of equally strong commercial sensibilities and classical leanings. Henry Thomas gives a strong, emotional performance as E.T.'s young friend, Robert MacNaughton and Drew Barrymore make a solid impression as his siblings, and Dee Wallace is lively as the kids' mother. The special effects almost look a bit quaint now with all the computer advancements that have occurred since, but they also have more heart behind them than a lot of what we see today. --Tom Keogh

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsTo all my comments go to my website

I am NOT reviewing the DVD. Only at the movies, unless otherwise indicated.

Please note that the above ratings may not accurately reflect my thinking, you will see a sentence at the end of the rating review.

What an awesome film. Steven Spielberg and John Williams, of course, are the big names, but all have played a great role in this film. But let me say, John Williams Steven Spielberg was the most completely. I'llonly a few names, Jaws, Indiana Jones, ET, Jurassic Park, and Spielberg was offered to Superman and not take it. But John has taken the place of work, I think it was right. Now, more on ET I like the way it gradually Revel ET, enough for your soul to feel right. I mean, Steven really knows how to play with your unique, making it one of the best directors of all time.

By the way, the photography in this film is fantastic. The shots are justincredible! You do not get those natural views today. Just 360 shots. Blaug. The humor in ET is large and light-hearted, just clean. No jokes or $ 3Xual violence necessary for the laugh, all light-hearted humor can get around. I find that in the Spielberg film, and Ghostbusters. The special effects are quite amazing, how did they do in 1982? I did not think they used CGI in live action at the moment. Still, even seduce. I know the sound paidOff (oh, hello Spielberg ...) No, I'm just kidding. The animals are a good addition, but I feel as if they were mistreated.

Clichés exist, however, fit into the well in the film. Another feature similar to Indiana Jones. But here is cliché family, where Indy is cliché in action. Jurassic Park has Sci-Fi clichés, Jaws has horror clichés, gosh, like Spielberg's cliché. ET also has a great personality, you can get all around this guy. It 's just perfect for the role,is so impressive. And speaking of that, I like how little by little he is able to learn to be together with friends and on his own. Show only pretended not a family film, and really put some 'personality in the character. The child actors are fantastic, this beats Goonies. I have never seen children act with such character and feelings. This shows what. They are free and very lively.

There is a fake show for children in the film that helps to talk to ET, but the text on it is disturbing. OhWell, minor quibble. Minor addition, I also love the voice of ET, it's so classic. You know, I waited too long to see this extraordinary film. The characters are wonderful, they all represent a different part of society. The novice, intermediate and expert, but naive, elder, corrupt, pure, and, of course, stranger. It fits perfectly in only a wonderful movie. Only a perfectly pure, intelligent film. Better than some of the rubbish put out in recent days. Oh, and, of course, Halloweenscene must be talked about. In no way would anyone ever make a costume so simple yet so smart. Meaning, all you do is to handle a sheet over his head dress ET as pure genius.

Honestly, I feel the bike scene could be overestimated. But, I have waited long to see this film, maybe my brain has been to synthesize. This is something that I must live. I have also seen, but I do not remember Spider-Man. But this is nothing like waiting to see the psychological aspect of this movie is EToriginal and the genius, the ability to feel other feelings. That's amazing! No thinking other thoughts, Spielberg was able to think in the way I am. Felt other emotions, which is correct and surprising. Beautiful. This film is not afraid to rip your heart, put the heart back inside makes you feel very deeply.

"Hey, who are you?" "I'm driving." Awesome line, which goes in the line of fame. A beautiful film.

I rate, 5.3 / 5

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsA MUST HAVE!!! - flo stengel -
I may be a bit 'too old for the purchase of ET in DVD format (I have the movie on VHS) and I remember taking my three young sons to the movie, not knowing what to expect and went on all the "chatter in the office "on how good the movie was. I remember that after all these years, died as flowers, leaves and dead feeling well. I also remember, not a few tears, but I really cry. I think two of my children even cried more than a few tears.
I purchased this in DVD form so I can pass on tomy three grandchildren, and will be able to experience this powerful film. Flo Stengel

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsOne of the 5 Best Science Fiction films ever made! This edition is also great, in that it offers both the original version and - Lawrence J. Cohen -
This must be one of the five best science fiction films ever made! This edition contains two DVDs, one containing the original version we all remember from 1982 (I was sixteen, my brother was ten years old, and we all laughed at the scene van because I was also going for the license), as well as a second disc that contains version by Steven Spielberg.

I happen to like both equally well. I thought Steven removing the weapons was a nice touch. In real life, I certainly hope the Fedsdo not pull guns guys like that! If they did, says a lot about how we are becoming a police state and the need to rethink some things, even in the climate of fear in view of terrorism.

This was a classic, a movie magic, someone who likes to watch over and over again.

E 'was also the first DVD I bought when I broke and bought a combination DVD player / VHS recorder. The image on tape vs DVD was fantastic!

Five stars for the filmand the disc together.

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsGrandchildren and I all loved it - Deborah Finnegan -
My grandchildren come every year to visit their home in Italy. This year they were old enough to watch "ET", so that we all have seen many times. E 'was great for their age, from 3 to 8, and continued to say, after "ET "!!!! Wanting to look again. (The youngest insist on calling "AT!" But we all knew what that meant.) This is a film so captivating! The relationship between the boy and the alien has been incredibly .... intimate portrait touches the heart ofall ages. Now one of my favorite movies, and you can see, I am an ounce!

The Lord of the Rings - The Motion Picture Trilogy (Platinum Series Special Extended Edition) Overview

This critically acclaimed epic trilogy follows the quest undertaken by the hobbit, Frodo Baggins, and his fellowship of companions to save Middle-earth by destroying the One Ring and defeating the evil forces of the Dark Lord Sauron. With new and extended scenes carefully added back into the film, the 12-disc set also includes hours of bonus features.

The Lord of the Rings - The Motion Picture Trilogy (Platinum Series Special Extended Edition) Specifications

The extended editions of Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings present the greatest trilogy in film history in the most ambitious sets in DVD history. In bringing J.R.R. Tolkien's nearly unfilmable work to the screen, Jackson benefited from extraordinary special effects, evocative New Zealand locales, and an exceptionally well-chosen cast, but most of all from his own adaptation with co-writers Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, preserving Tolkien's vision and often his very words, but also making logical changes to accommodate the medium of film. While purists complained about these changes and about characters and scenes left out of the films, the almost two additional hours of material in the extended editions (about 11 hours total) help appease them by delving more deeply into Tolkien's music, the characters, and loose ends that enrich the story, such as an explanation of the Faramir-Denethor relationship, and the appearance of the Mouth of Sauron at the gates of Mordor. In addition, the extended editions offer more bridge material between the films, further confirming that the trilogy is really one long film presented in three pieces (which is why it's the greatest trilogy ever--there's no weak link). The scene of Galadriel's gifts to the Fellowship added to the first film proves significant over the course of the story, while the new Faramir scene at the end of the second film helps set up the third and the new Saruman scene at the beginning of the third film helps conclude the plot of the second.

To top it all off, the extended editions offer four discs per film: two for the longer movie, plus four commentary tracks and stupendous DTS 6.1 ES sound; and two for the bonus material, which covers just about everything from script creation to special effects. The argument was that fans would need both versions because the bonus material is completely different, but the features on the theatrical releases are so vastly inferior that the only reason a fan would need them would be if they wanted to watch the shorter versions they saw in theaters (the last of which, The Return of the King, merely won 11 Oscars). The LOTR extended editions without exception have set the DVD standard by providing a richer film experience that pulls the three films together and further embraces Tolkien's world, a reference-quality home theater experience, and generous, intelligent, and engrossing bonus features. --David Horiuchi

Horror Movies Customer Reviews

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsI must admit that after watching the first film in this trilogy over the years back after the first reading of the books, I was disappointed in many dramatic licenses that have been taken in the script. I still think that the omission of the portion along the Shire is unfortunate, but after seeing these movies again with the incredible amount of special functions in a director's cut version, I'm more forgiving and I understand why it is virtually impossible to translate directlywritten in prose in a perfect representation on the screen. The fact that the writers did their best to transfer the general intention and meaning of what they interpreted Tolkien had in mind was good enough for me.

That's why this is the only way to truly appreciate, and then enjoy the trilogy for me. Without the extended versions and bonus material, just missing a lot of greatness in the film, when you look at the original versions thearetical. I alsosaw this on a Blu-ray and upscaling DVD to 1080p very well makes me very happy to stay with this DVD package without the need to "upgrade" to Blu-ray. The packaging is also first class with all three films are receiving a very well designed box just before putting in a bigger box that contains all three. New Line Home Entertainment deserves a lot of compliments on this product that is obviously very well thought out and planned, and this fan has nothingreally to complain about.

The quality of picture and sound is excellent, the bonus materials are bulky and the overall packaging is first class.

Highly recommended!

The Hive (Wide Screen Edition) Overview

The ninth installment in the Maneater Series, The Hive unleashes a mass of flesh-eating army ants 200 million strong is making its way through the jungles of Brazil devouring every living thing in its path. Called in to stave off the attack is Horace Lennart, a scientist from Thorax Industries extermination service in Los Angeles, and his girlfriend, entomologist Claire Dubois. But when they discover the bizarre intention and origins of the crawling creatures, they fear for the future of the planet. When these ants come crawling, classic horror gets a contemporary twist and an unearthly invasion gets the upper hand.

Horror Movies Customer Reviews

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsI found myself saying that a little 'in this film, actually. As many of you undoubtedly know, I took it upon myself to watch all the films of the 'Man-Eater'. If you do not know, these are a lot of low budget horror film that debuted on the Sci-Fi channel and have several animals Running Amok and attack people. You know, like grizzly bears, sharks, crocodiles, Bengal tigers, giant squid, or in this particular case, swarms of ants. Well, more or less. But I'll arrive on time. And believe me, this really takes the cake!

My girlfriend took this as a surprise gift, and we saw that last night. All I can say is ... what just happened? We found ourselves laughing through the whole movie, so some of my criticisms may not be entirely accurate. However, the film is set in a 'generic SE Asian archipelago' (but accidentally shot in Thailand) and possibly set in the future as the exterminators high-tech in the movie seem to wear space suits andshoot laser beams swarm of ants. Yes, you heard me right, freaking laser beams! Just as ants, however, this consists of cheese, hastily made CGI artwork. But the ants really take the cake, not least of which, why do things like this ... oh, form giant fists flying! Made entirely of ants!

Mind you, I did not go in until this is all a scientific film, and (of course) the army ants 'living bridge' form so joining ... sort of. But still, this movie really test the limits of credibility here. Most of the actors were not so interesting, apart from the two chicks (none of which are eaten by ants, by the way, despite what the child formosa on the cover may lead you to think), and the boy Asian dictator which opens up occasionally. But the highlight of this film is the way in part through when the ants form a computer LIFE (!) Through the generation of electricity (!) And conduct a hostage negotiation with humans (?!?!). Oh, thatand the fact that aliens were involved in some way (we find only in the last five minutes or so).

So, my opinions of this ... abomination? Well, it was pretty funny. Almost surreal, actually. As I said, one of the giant ant fists and references to a (invisible) ship, I'm not entirely sure what to make of this one. Its very different from other flicks like Man-Eater 'man-eater', 'Croc', 'Eye of the Beast' and the recent 'Hybrid,' thats for sure. Much more sci-ficontent. If you like the film baaad, do not miss this one. It 's the cheesiest thing I've seen in quite a long time.

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsThe CGI Hive - Richard Nervous - Florida
After reading many positive reviews on this I took the plunge and bought it, it was not a good idea. What do I expect? I really was not expecting much in fact, knowing the type of movie it was I wanted it to be fun. I knew there would be tons of CGI and probably would be pretty bad as well, but I was ready to look the same.

The biggest challenge I had with this is that it's Sci-Fi than it is horror. The cover is definitely misleading, as it seemsGorefest could be a fun, but I never paid attention to the window and note that it was a production Syfy, my goof. I would have avoided altogether, if I had known.

The film is not horrible, but not really deliver the goods, there is a lot of CGI, but that's to be expected in a series of Man Hunter. Here are the pros and cons, as I see them:

Pros:
Good photography
An interesting story (it's a bit 'weird but fun!)
Great Audio

By's:
No Blood!
Slow pacing

The wolf is really outperform the rest. It begins in the first 20 minutes moving very fast and then all of a sudden it stops completely all actions for 45 minutes of dialogue and science. I think this part is for fans of science fiction that I'm not generally a part of it and completely destroyed the moment the film has been building. The film had no Gore, while the box art made it seemLike this film would have been a bit 'explicit.

It is not terrible, but I'd rather spend another 90 minutes with "haunting," which is like a movie, but really delivers the goods and is a fun ride.

This could have been better with more action in the midst of building a great climax.

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsStrange movie - Bakuryuu Tyranno - England
Okay first of all, this movie is very strange. Masses of army ants swarm everywhere, causing the army of an Asian country to call in exterminators four African American, cause you know murders are exterminating pests much more skillful than men of the army.

And of course these guys have weapons technology that exceeds any seen before anywhere. They can spread their destructive power over a wide area and for some reason has never hurt anyone, but the insects. Is it somehow their ammunition because onlyinfluence insect DNA?

As for the ants, swarming all over the world apart and devours people have the ability to form huge tentacles that may or may not have their hands in the end, the kind of things mainframe computer and a bizarre giant ant.

Yes, that's a very strange film. The only downside I expected it to be a bit 'more chaotic (there are a lot of scenes of people standing around discussing their plans), and was hoping someone would do on a regular Oviearmy ants before they have additional skills in film was made.

But in reality, the main problem with the film Sci-Fi Channel movies is that they are generic and this monster is anything but. It may be funny and over-the-top, but it is an original, inventive, a very funny sci-fi movie.

Horror Movies Customer Reviewsoh, the pain. oh, the misery. - Robert P. Beveridge - Cleveland, OH
The Hive (Peter Manus, 2007)

The Hive Five minutes in, I knew it was terrible. I propose a new unwritten rule of reviewing movies: any movie that uses CGI blob to represent any kind of creature swarming is automatically terrible.

Ten minutes after the hive, I had forgiven the CGI blob and was convinced that it would be better to look at the [censored for Amazon consumption] movie killer ants from The Naked Jungle. (Okay, maybe when it happened at Lakewood Manor. But youget the idea.) First, most professional major titles I've seen on almost any film I've seen on the Sci-Fi channel, and this also applies to the theatrical version as well. And then, well, the hardware is great chest? Putting together the big guns and flak jackets and ants are sold.

Twenty minutes into The Hive, we see the first tentacle ant. Regard immediately returned to the dumpster. Unfortunately, it is never found again.

If you need a plot summary for aAnt Movie killer: there are killer ants. We are human beings trying to stop the killer ants. What can you tell? Well, you should probably know that humans are using what looks like the laser guns, and the ants take the concept of "hive mind" to a new level of cheese and stupid.

I will give this movie one thing - that introduced me to the beautiful Jessica Reavis, the rest of that work will now be hunting. However, nothing else about the movie is worth it.Manus and writer TS Cook (can you believe that this guy was responsible for the China Syndrome?) Find all possible ways to make this film so terrible as possible, and use them aggressively. I guess actually faced with an army of killer ants would be preferable to sitting for the whole movie again. *

Begin your STAR WARS DVD collection with STAR WARS: Episode 1 THE PHANTOM MENACE. Packed with over six hours of additional material, including exclusive documentaries and never-before-seen deleted scenes, this 2-disc set provides the perfect showcase for the incredible detail and breathtaking scope of George Lucas's first episode in the mythic STAR WARS saga.

Star Wars - Episode I, The Phantom Menace (Widescreen Edition) Specifications

"I have a bad feeling about this," says the young Obi-Wan Kenobi (played by Ewan McGregor) in Star Wars: Episode I, The Phantom Menace as he steps off a spaceship and into the most anticipated cinematic event... well, ever. He might as well be speaking for the legions of fans of the original episodes in the Star Wars saga who can't help but secretly ask themselves: Sure, this is Star Wars, but is it my Star Wars? The original elevated moviegoers' expectations so high that it would have been impossible for any subsequent film to meet them. And as with all the Star Wars movies, The Phantom Menace features inexplicable plot twists, a fistful of loose threads, and some cheek-chewing dialogue. Han Solo's swagger is sorely missed, as is the pervading menace of heavy-breather Darth Vader. There is still way too much quasi-mystical mumbo jumbo, and some of what was fresh about Star Wars 22 years earlier feels formulaic. Yet there's much to admire. The special effects are stupendous; three worlds are populated with a mélange of creatures, flora, and horizons rendered in absolute detail. The action and battle scenes are breathtaking in their complexity. And one particular sequence of the film--the adrenaline-infused pod race through the Tatooine desert--makes the chariot race in Ben-Hur look like a Sunday stroll through the park.

Among the host of new characters, there are a few familiar walk-ons. We witness the first meeting between R2-D2 and C-3PO, Jabba the Hutt looks younger and slimmer (but not young and slim), and Yoda is as crabby as ever. Natalie Portman's stately Queen Amidala sports hairdos that make Princess Leia look dowdy and wields a mean laser. We never bond with Jedi Knight Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson), and Obi-Wan's day is yet to come. Jar Jar Binks, a cross between a Muppet, a frog, and a hippie, provides many of the movie's lighter moments, while Sith Lord Darth Maul is a formidable force. Baby-faced Anakin Skywalker (Jake Lloyd) looks too young and innocent to command the powers of the Force or wield a lightsaber (much less transmute into the future Darth Vader), but his boyish exuberance wins over skeptics.

Near the end of the movie, Palpatine, the new leader of the Republic, may be speaking for fans eagerly awaiting Episode II when he pats young Anakin on the head and says, "We will watch your career with great interest." Indeed! --Tod Nelson

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsEpisode I: Phantom Menace Phantom Plot - Samurai Dave - Tokyo, japan
Let me clarify that if I'm a fan of the original three Star Wars movies, I do not hate the movie prequel of some kind of fanatical fanboy reaction. I just do not like movies because they are good films.

Defense of this film and the other two follow-up was a result of fierce anger of many disappointed fans and haters of Jar Jar Binks. Before its release, I understand that some die-hard fans have shown their loyalty to the franchise of Star Wars with the paymentout more than $ 500 to see the premiere of "Episode III: Revenge of the Sith." If you paid $ 500 for a film of shit, you have to defend, rather than admit that they have wasted a buttload of dinero.

Phantom Menace: Movie Phantom

Movie Phantom is a ghost of a plot, and characterization of a ghost. Mainly, it's just a long journey joyless mediocrity relying more on flash than substance. Like many critics and fans have noted over the years, the first three films may have had manydefects but were overall good movie with interesting characters and a plot simple but attractive.

Some people complain about "Return of the Jedi" because one of the most controversial of the original trilogy to be the introduction of the Stone Age teddy bears known as the Ewoks. However, you really have to admit that Jar Jar Binks of "Episodes I" redeems the Ewoks, at least some of these bears had the decency to die and could not understand them when they werespeak.

The original Star Wars movies have had huge success and popular support because they were grounded in ancient primordial myths that people of all generations and cultures could relate. Moreover, the first three films are nostalgic for the years 1950 and 1930 sci-fi adventure films and television series. There are a lot of just pure fun campy lines like, "I'm Luke Skywalker.'m Here to save you!"

Nothing like it in "Episode I" Dialog is appallingly poor and lifeless. The characters are uninteresting, with the exception of Darth Maul rarely - and he comes off second best to Boba Fett of the original films. character Obi-Wan, Alec Guinness' has much less screen time in "Star Wars" character practically unpronounceable Jedi Liam Neeson. Yet the death of Obi-Wan has had an impact on the public much more than the second because Obi-Wan was more of a recognizable, developed a public persona could feel for. Neeson's character I felt was a strangerthroughout the entire film, paperboard over the Jedi. I sometimes forget that he also died in the movie, his character being as it was to forget. Neeson does not blame for this. I blame poor storytelling and characterization.

Maybe I'm getting too old for the eye candy effects, but I found the CGI in the film arrogant and false. Give me the old models look awkward and alien men-in-rubber-suit. It seems that when Lucas and the company has less money and technology wereforced to be more creative. Now blessed (or cursed) with plenty of both, the end result is Jar Jar Binks, one of the most hated aides to obscure the silver screen. Regarding the battle robots are talking wimpy-looking broomsticks with guns.

The humor of "Episode I" is degrading and pandering to children primarily expressed everything from slapstick Jar Jar through gaps in terms of Buster Keaton would have been sickened. The humor of the first three film works mainlybecause there is chemistry between the characters.

The story of "Episode I" does not hold good or interest. We have a plot on a block on trade regulations (finally! Economics and sci-fi!) And a kid with extraordinary powers but possessing all the personality and charm of a piece of furniture.

Then there is the very thin sub-plot of Darth Maul that is so sub is basically a submarine. And there's just too much repetition in some scenes, such astravel underwater on Naboo, as big fish eat big fish, and too long, not-thought-it-would-end pod-racing scene. Maybe NASCAR racing fans liked it.

Overall, things happen more by blind dumb luck, rather than by force, as Anakin blow up the mother ship completely by accident. And speaking of the Force, the mystic is gone, the idea of Zen so gripped the public and the pop culture of the past. Instead we have a scientific interpretation of the Force Star Trek asa sort of blood disorder.

One of the biggest problems I had with the film was Anakin Skywalker, often lovingly referred to by many critics as "Manakin Skywalker." Jake Lloyd's acting abilities by presenting the future Darth Vader as a child is not so important that a movie complex should be devoted to it. L '"Episode I" plot could easily be reduced to about 15-20 minutes at the beginning of "Episode II: Attack of the Clones."

The story behind theprequel to the fall and the transformation of Anakin Skywalker into Darth Vader. But a child is not an interesting character for the type of general history George Lucas presented in these more recent films. I would rather have had Anakin first revealed as a young man in his mid to late teens as a flawed hero, but nice, going down slowly over the three prequels in the dark, as the result of their decisions and things outside of its control . And totally useless message should"Hurrah!" no matter how well he does something.

A few notes of concern other angry:

Because the robots in the movie need to speak aloud to one another?

Why have Hugh Quarshie All Funked as a driver for 1970 a pimp? (Referring to the Queen of Naboo's bodyguard very questionable)

Why did Obi-Wan R2D2 and C3PO forgotten in later years? Senility had Jedi? (I know the answer: They were only in movieestablish continuity inconsistent. The logic is not even an option).

And besides, why does not remember Tatooine Darth Vader? Dark Side senility?

Because the rest of the delegates Republic scrubs for a backward world like Naboo and call a new election of their leader, Supreme Chancellor Valorum (Terence Stamp)?

As is too old to 7 or 8 Jedi training? They have a training school embryo? (And just forget the fact that Luke has made somesignificant progress in a couple of years from country boy can lift objects for the home only to small Jedi superhero challenge the Emperor and Darth Vader.)

Why all the drivers look like Naboo employees close to retirement, apparently without an ounce of training for combat and only wearing safety glasses and leather baseball caps? (They seemed incapable adults in the Disney movie that hideously adorable children must build on what is actually happening.)

WhyObi-Wan did lie about his first meeting with Anakin? Anakin was not the best pilot in the galaxy when they first met, was a wet-behind the ears, 10 years, home.

Overall, Phantom Menace has been a disappointment both as a Star Wars movie and just like a period film.

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsI miss Darth Maul - Joker - Michigan
When Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace was released in May 1999, someone said that the movie sucks. Some people said they liked it, while others said it was just "OK." Well, that's how it was for eleven years. This is a film that got mixed reviews. What's my opinion of this film?

Okay, that's all.

This is a film that could have been much better, but George Lucas is botched up. There are a number of reasons, so I'll explain.

Second of all, midichlorians. Because this term was used to give a scientific explanation for theForce? Because it was explained to all the power?

Third of all, quality of wood. Many of the characters are so rigid, so wooden, and so boring. I know that political discourse is not the most exciting person in the world, but at least the characters show some emotion and personality.

Fourth of all, superior technology. Because it is the most sophisticated technology and superior technology of episodes IV, V and VI? This film is supposed to take place 40 yearsbefore Episode IV - A New Hope, but the technology seems to be more suitable for a film that takes place 40 years after Episode VI - Return of the Jedi. The only mention of Technology in The Phantom Menace is less than that of vessels that need help from a "booster" to enter hyperspace.

Fifth of all, the killing of Darth Maul. What was on Naboo? Obi-Wan Kenobi is hanging for dear life several feet below where Darth Maul is standing and looking down at him. SuddenlyKenobi lightsabre looks towards where Qui-Gon is lying on the floor. My question is this: With foot Kenobi different below the floor, as you can see lightsabre Qui-Gon from that point of view? The lightsabre is completely out of his sight. It has the X-ray vision? Another thing - Why Darth Maul just stand there looking like Kenobi leaps, grabs the lightsabre, and swipes him? Maul Kenobi had every opportunity to sneak in those few seconds.

Why wasDarth Maul killed to begin with? And 'one of my favorite characters in the entire six-film saga!

One sixth of all, Jar Jar Binks. Oooooooohhhhhhhhhhhh Jar Jar Binks. It was so annoying. He was meant to provide comic relief instead of R2D2 and C3PO, C3PO seeing that was being built at that time was not yet a partner R2D2. Instead, he alone has ruined the movie, or at least come damn close. Also, I did not find that funny. And 'dry humor was the best. Hewould appeal to kids. I truly believe that if I was seven years old when this film came out I would not Binks. Seriously. If there was a worst films of all characters of Time Hall of Fame, Jar Jar Binks would be a first ballot Hall of Famer.

Seventh of all, Anakin Skywalker. Jake Lloyd was given a script to act as the boy he was. Not entirely his fault. His character did not show any hint of possible development of part of evil in the future, even in the mostsubtly. Her character comes off as very childish and uninteresting and shallow for the most part. His interaction with Padme is embarrassing.

Eighth of all, the pod race was too long. E 'was great visually, but I get the impression that George Lucas wanted to show off just what can be done with CGI technology, Which brings me to my next point ...

Ninth of all, there were too CGI. George Lucas fell in love with CGI technology and overused it. Whytechnology in the galaxy far, far away is far more sophisticated than in the prequel episodes IV, V and VI. It makes no sense.

Overall, the film is just OK. There are some strengths in it, but the negatives outweigh the positives. Some of the positives are the soundtrack of John Williams, which I think is one of the best scores in all six movie saga, high intensity lightsabre fight with Kenobi, Jinn and Maul, and the battle scenes on Naboo arevisual impact (just pretend Jar Jar is not in those scenes). I also like a lot of costumes, such as the arsenal of Queen Amidala.

I was glad that George Lucas bounced back and went back out with Episode II - Attack of the Clones, and even better, Episode III - Revenge of the Sith.

Horror Movies Customer Reviewsmediocrity with a few enjoyable moments - Dream's Raven - USA
When this film was released in 1999, was one of the most overrated film events I had ever experienced. Too bad the movie itself is not at all. He introduced the characters and plot elements that proved important later in the series and this is good. I just wish it had it done with a story more interesting and better quality. And no Jar Jar Binks. He is the most annoying! I'm glad that all but eliminated in the other prequels. Yet, the scenes of actionAt the end were pretty sweet, and the sequence of race was exciting. Overall, I'd say this was a disappointing film.
