The Hive (Wide Screen Edition) Overview
The ninth installment in the Maneater Series, The Hive unleashes a mass of flesh-eating army ants 200 million strong is making its way through the jungles of Brazil devouring every living thing in its path. Called in to stave off the attack is Horace Lennart, a scientist from Thorax Industries extermination service in Los Angeles, and his girlfriend, entomologist Claire Dubois. But when they discover the bizarre intention and origins of the crawling creatures, they fear for the future of the planet. When these ants come crawling, classic horror gets a contemporary twist and an unearthly invasion gets the upper hand.
Horror Movies Customer Reviews
I found myself saying that a little 'in this film, actually. As many of you undoubtedly know, I took it upon myself to watch all the films of the 'Man-Eater'. If you do not know, these are a lot of low budget horror film that debuted on the Sci-Fi channel and have several animals Running Amok and attack people. You know, like grizzly bears, sharks, crocodiles, Bengal tigers, giant squid, or in this particular case, swarms of ants. Well, more or less. But I'll arrive on time. And believe me, this really takes the cake!
My girlfriend took this as a surprise gift, and we saw that last night. All I can say is ... what just happened? We found ourselves laughing through the whole movie, so some of my criticisms may not be entirely accurate. However, the film is set in a 'generic SE Asian archipelago' (but accidentally shot in Thailand) and possibly set in the future as the exterminators high-tech in the movie seem to wear space suits andshoot laser beams swarm of ants. Yes, you heard me right, freaking laser beams! Just as ants, however, this consists of cheese, hastily made CGI artwork. But the ants really take the cake, not least of which, why do things like this ... oh, form giant fists flying! Made entirely of ants!
Mind you, I did not go in until this is all a scientific film, and (of course) the army ants 'living bridge' form so joining ... sort of. But still, this movie really test the limits of credibility here. Most of the actors were not so interesting, apart from the two chicks (none of which are eaten by ants, by the way, despite what the child formosa on the cover may lead you to think), and the boy Asian dictator which opens up occasionally. But the highlight of this film is the way in part through when the ants form a computer LIFE (!) Through the generation of electricity (!) And conduct a hostage negotiation with humans (?!?!). Oh, thatand the fact that aliens were involved in some way (we find only in the last five minutes or so).
So, my opinions of this ... abomination? Well, it was pretty funny. Almost surreal, actually. As I said, one of the giant ant fists and references to a (invisible) ship, I'm not entirely sure what to make of this one. Its very different from other flicks like Man-Eater 'man-eater', 'Croc', 'Eye of the Beast' and the recent 'Hybrid,' thats for sure. Much more sci-ficontent. If you like the film baaad, do not miss this one. It 's the cheesiest thing I've seen in quite a long time.
The CGI Hive - Richard Nervous - Florida
After reading many positive reviews on this I took the plunge and bought it, it was not a good idea. What do I expect? I really was not expecting much in fact, knowing the type of movie it was I wanted it to be fun. I knew there would be tons of CGI and probably would be pretty bad as well, but I was ready to look the same.
The biggest challenge I had with this is that it's Sci-Fi than it is horror. The cover is definitely misleading, as it seemsGorefest could be a fun, but I never paid attention to the window and note that it was a production Syfy, my goof. I would have avoided altogether, if I had known.
The film is not horrible, but not really deliver the goods, there is a lot of CGI, but that's to be expected in a series of Man Hunter. Here are the pros and cons, as I see them:
Pros:
Good photography
An interesting story (it's a bit 'weird but fun!)
Great Audio
By's:
No Blood!
Slow pacing
The wolf is really outperform the rest. It begins in the first 20 minutes moving very fast and then all of a sudden it stops completely all actions for 45 minutes of dialogue and science. I think this part is for fans of science fiction that I'm not generally a part of it and completely destroyed the moment the film has been building. The film had no Gore, while the box art made it seemLike this film would have been a bit 'explicit.
It is not terrible, but I'd rather spend another 90 minutes with "haunting," which is like a movie, but really delivers the goods and is a fun ride.
This could have been better with more action in the midst of building a great climax.
Strange movie - Bakuryuu Tyranno - England
Okay first of all, this movie is very strange. Masses of army ants swarm everywhere, causing the army of an Asian country to call in exterminators four African American, cause you know murders are exterminating pests much more skillful than men of the army.
And of course these guys have weapons technology that exceeds any seen before anywhere. They can spread their destructive power over a wide area and for some reason has never hurt anyone, but the insects. Is it somehow their ammunition because onlyinfluence insect DNA?
As for the ants, swarming all over the world apart and devours people have the ability to form huge tentacles that may or may not have their hands in the end, the kind of things mainframe computer and a bizarre giant ant.
Yes, that's a very strange film. The only downside I expected it to be a bit 'more chaotic (there are a lot of scenes of people standing around discussing their plans), and was hoping someone would do on a regular Oviearmy ants before they have additional skills in film was made.
But in reality, the main problem with the film Sci-Fi Channel movies is that they are generic and this monster is anything but. It may be funny and over-the-top, but it is an original, inventive, a very funny sci-fi movie.

The Hive (Peter Manus, 2007)
The Hive Five minutes in, I knew it was terrible. I propose a new unwritten rule of reviewing movies: any movie that uses CGI blob to represent any kind of creature swarming is automatically terrible.
Ten minutes after the hive, I had forgiven the CGI blob and was convinced that it would be better to look at the [censored for Amazon consumption] movie killer ants from The Naked Jungle. (Okay, maybe when it happened at Lakewood Manor. But youget the idea.) First, most professional major titles I've seen on almost any film I've seen on the Sci-Fi channel, and this also applies to the theatrical version as well. And then, well, the hardware is great chest? Putting together the big guns and flak jackets and ants are sold.
Twenty minutes into The Hive, we see the first tentacle ant. Regard immediately returned to the dumpster. Unfortunately, it is never found again.
If you need a plot summary for aAnt Movie killer: there are killer ants. We are human beings trying to stop the killer ants. What can you tell? Well, you should probably know that humans are using what looks like the laser guns, and the ants take the concept of "hive mind" to a new level of cheese and stupid.
I will give this movie one thing - that introduced me to the beautiful Jessica Reavis, the rest of that work will now be hunting. However, nothing else about the movie is worth it.Manus and writer TS Cook (can you believe that this guy was responsible for the China Syndrome?) Find all possible ways to make this film so terrible as possible, and use them aggressively. I guess actually faced with an army of killer ants would be preferable to sitting for the whole movie again. *
