The Lord of the Rings - The Motion Picture Trilogy (Platinum Series Special Extended Edition) Overview

This critically acclaimed epic trilogy follows the quest undertaken by the hobbit, Frodo Baggins, and his fellowship of companions to save Middle-earth by destroying the One Ring and defeating the evil forces of the Dark Lord Sauron. With new and extended scenes carefully added back into the film, the 12-disc set also includes hours of bonus features.

The Lord of the Rings - The Motion Picture Trilogy (Platinum Series Special Extended Edition) Specifications

The extended editions of Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings present the greatest trilogy in film history in the most ambitious sets in DVD history. In bringing J.R.R. Tolkien's nearly unfilmable work to the screen, Jackson benefited from extraordinary special effects, evocative New Zealand locales, and an exceptionally well-chosen cast, but most of all from his own adaptation with co-writers Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, preserving Tolkien's vision and often his very words, but also making logical changes to accommodate the medium of film. While purists complained about these changes and about characters and scenes left out of the films, the almost two additional hours of material in the extended editions (about 11 hours total) help appease them by delving more deeply into Tolkien's music, the characters, and loose ends that enrich the story, such as an explanation of the Faramir-Denethor relationship, and the appearance of the Mouth of Sauron at the gates of Mordor. In addition, the extended editions offer more bridge material between the films, further confirming that the trilogy is really one long film presented in three pieces (which is why it's the greatest trilogy ever--there's no weak link). The scene of Galadriel's gifts to the Fellowship added to the first film proves significant over the course of the story, while the new Faramir scene at the end of the second film helps set up the third and the new Saruman scene at the beginning of the third film helps conclude the plot of the second.

To top it all off, the extended editions offer four discs per film: two for the longer movie, plus four commentary tracks and stupendous DTS 6.1 ES sound; and two for the bonus material, which covers just about everything from script creation to special effects. The argument was that fans would need both versions because the bonus material is completely different, but the features on the theatrical releases are so vastly inferior that the only reason a fan would need them would be if they wanted to watch the shorter versions they saw in theaters (the last of which, The Return of the King, merely won 11 Oscars). The LOTR extended editions without exception have set the DVD standard by providing a richer film experience that pulls the three films together and further embraces Tolkien's world, a reference-quality home theater experience, and generous, intelligent, and engrossing bonus features. --David Horiuchi

Horror Movies Customer Reviews

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsI must admit that after watching the first film in this trilogy over the years back after the first reading of the books, I was disappointed in many dramatic licenses that have been taken in the script. I still think that the omission of the portion along the Shire is unfortunate, but after seeing these movies again with the incredible amount of special functions in a director's cut version, I'm more forgiving and I understand why it is virtually impossible to translate directlywritten in prose in a perfect representation on the screen. The fact that the writers did their best to transfer the general intention and meaning of what they interpreted Tolkien had in mind was good enough for me.

That's why this is the only way to truly appreciate, and then enjoy the trilogy for me. Without the extended versions and bonus material, just missing a lot of greatness in the film, when you look at the original versions thearetical. I alsosaw this on a Blu-ray and upscaling DVD to 1080p very well makes me very happy to stay with this DVD package without the need to "upgrade" to Blu-ray. The packaging is also first class with all three films are receiving a very well designed box just before putting in a bigger box that contains all three. New Line Home Entertainment deserves a lot of compliments on this product that is obviously very well thought out and planned, and this fan has nothingreally to complain about.

The quality of picture and sound is excellent, the bonus materials are bulky and the overall packaging is first class.

Highly recommended!

What can I say? If you really want to enjoy this trilogy for what it is, buy this! The standard DVD release are quite different in content. Some scenes are completely different. This edition compiles the film and gives you a much better experience. Have fun!

The Hive (Wide Screen Edition) Overview

The ninth installment in the Maneater Series, The Hive unleashes a mass of flesh-eating army ants 200 million strong is making its way through the jungles of Brazil devouring every living thing in its path. Called in to stave off the attack is Horace Lennart, a scientist from Thorax Industries extermination service in Los Angeles, and his girlfriend, entomologist Claire Dubois. But when they discover the bizarre intention and origins of the crawling creatures, they fear for the future of the planet. When these ants come crawling, classic horror gets a contemporary twist and an unearthly invasion gets the upper hand.

Horror Movies Customer Reviews

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsI found myself saying that a little 'in this film, actually. As many of you undoubtedly know, I took it upon myself to watch all the films of the 'Man-Eater'. If you do not know, these are a lot of low budget horror film that debuted on the Sci-Fi channel and have several animals Running Amok and attack people. You know, like grizzly bears, sharks, crocodiles, Bengal tigers, giant squid, or in this particular case, swarms of ants. Well, more or less. But I'll arrive on time. And believe me, this really takes the cake!

My girlfriend took this as a surprise gift, and we saw that last night. All I can say is ... what just happened? We found ourselves laughing through the whole movie, so some of my criticisms may not be entirely accurate. However, the film is set in a 'generic SE Asian archipelago' (but accidentally shot in Thailand) and possibly set in the future as the exterminators high-tech in the movie seem to wear space suits andshoot laser beams swarm of ants. Yes, you heard me right, freaking laser beams! Just as ants, however, this consists of cheese, hastily made CGI artwork. But the ants really take the cake, not least of which, why do things like this ... oh, form giant fists flying! Made entirely of ants!

Mind you, I did not go in until this is all a scientific film, and (of course) the army ants 'living bridge' form so joining ... sort of. But still, this movie really test the limits of credibility here. Most of the actors were not so interesting, apart from the two chicks (none of which are eaten by ants, by the way, despite what the child formosa on the cover may lead you to think), and the boy Asian dictator which opens up occasionally. But the highlight of this film is the way in part through when the ants form a computer LIFE (!) Through the generation of electricity (!) And conduct a hostage negotiation with humans (?!?!). Oh, thatand the fact that aliens were involved in some way (we find only in the last five minutes or so).

So, my opinions of this ... abomination? Well, it was pretty funny. Almost surreal, actually. As I said, one of the giant ant fists and references to a (invisible) ship, I'm not entirely sure what to make of this one. Its very different from other flicks like Man-Eater 'man-eater', 'Croc', 'Eye of the Beast' and the recent 'Hybrid,' thats for sure. Much more sci-ficontent. If you like the film baaad, do not miss this one. It 's the cheesiest thing I've seen in quite a long time.

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsThe CGI Hive - Richard Nervous - Florida
After reading many positive reviews on this I took the plunge and bought it, it was not a good idea. What do I expect? I really was not expecting much in fact, knowing the type of movie it was I wanted it to be fun. I knew there would be tons of CGI and probably would be pretty bad as well, but I was ready to look the same.

The biggest challenge I had with this is that it's Sci-Fi than it is horror. The cover is definitely misleading, as it seemsGorefest could be a fun, but I never paid attention to the window and note that it was a production Syfy, my goof. I would have avoided altogether, if I had known.

The film is not horrible, but not really deliver the goods, there is a lot of CGI, but that's to be expected in a series of Man Hunter. Here are the pros and cons, as I see them:

Pros:
Good photography
An interesting story (it's a bit 'weird but fun!)
Great Audio

By's:
No Blood!
Slow pacing

The wolf is really outperform the rest. It begins in the first 20 minutes moving very fast and then all of a sudden it stops completely all actions for 45 minutes of dialogue and science. I think this part is for fans of science fiction that I'm not generally a part of it and completely destroyed the moment the film has been building. The film had no Gore, while the box art made it seemLike this film would have been a bit 'explicit.

It is not terrible, but I'd rather spend another 90 minutes with "haunting," which is like a movie, but really delivers the goods and is a fun ride.

This could have been better with more action in the midst of building a great climax.

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsStrange movie - Bakuryuu Tyranno - England
Okay first of all, this movie is very strange. Masses of army ants swarm everywhere, causing the army of an Asian country to call in exterminators four African American, cause you know murders are exterminating pests much more skillful than men of the army.

And of course these guys have weapons technology that exceeds any seen before anywhere. They can spread their destructive power over a wide area and for some reason has never hurt anyone, but the insects. Is it somehow their ammunition because onlyinfluence insect DNA?

As for the ants, swarming all over the world apart and devours people have the ability to form huge tentacles that may or may not have their hands in the end, the kind of things mainframe computer and a bizarre giant ant.

Yes, that's a very strange film. The only downside I expected it to be a bit 'more chaotic (there are a lot of scenes of people standing around discussing their plans), and was hoping someone would do on a regular Oviearmy ants before they have additional skills in film was made.

But in reality, the main problem with the film Sci-Fi Channel movies is that they are generic and this monster is anything but. It may be funny and over-the-top, but it is an original, inventive, a very funny sci-fi movie.

Horror Movies Customer Reviewsoh, the pain. oh, the misery. - Robert P. Beveridge - Cleveland, OH
The Hive (Peter Manus, 2007)

The Hive Five minutes in, I knew it was terrible. I propose a new unwritten rule of reviewing movies: any movie that uses CGI blob to represent any kind of creature swarming is automatically terrible.

Ten minutes after the hive, I had forgiven the CGI blob and was convinced that it would be better to look at the [censored for Amazon consumption] movie killer ants from The Naked Jungle. (Okay, maybe when it happened at Lakewood Manor. But youget the idea.) First, most professional major titles I've seen on almost any film I've seen on the Sci-Fi channel, and this also applies to the theatrical version as well. And then, well, the hardware is great chest? Putting together the big guns and flak jackets and ants are sold.

Twenty minutes into The Hive, we see the first tentacle ant. Regard immediately returned to the dumpster. Unfortunately, it is never found again.

If you need a plot summary for aAnt Movie killer: there are killer ants. We are human beings trying to stop the killer ants. What can you tell? Well, you should probably know that humans are using what looks like the laser guns, and the ants take the concept of "hive mind" to a new level of cheese and stupid.

I will give this movie one thing - that introduced me to the beautiful Jessica Reavis, the rest of that work will now be hunting. However, nothing else about the movie is worth it.Manus and writer TS Cook (can you believe that this guy was responsible for the China Syndrome?) Find all possible ways to make this film so terrible as possible, and use them aggressively. I guess actually faced with an army of killer ants would be preferable to sitting for the whole movie again. *

Savage Harvest Overview

Years ago, a Cherokee elder summoned into our world an evil that eventually destroyed his entire tribe. Now, on the land that was once inhabited by the tribe, demonic forces await the return of this long-dead Cherokee elder. Demonic possession consumes one victim after another as showers of blood drench the earth and shrieks of pain echo throughout the forest! The possessed are animalistic, frenzied killing machines, feeding on the warm meat of fresh kills!

Horror Movies Customer Reviews

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsI must applaud the efforts of the creator of this film. First, the special effects were the quality of a large budget production made today.
The plot is very interesting and unique and kills are gruesome, as it could be.
I know this film was made with the heart so anyone interested in starting a career in independent cinema should check this out. It holds a spark influential young movie maker like me. And 'also fun to watch with a group of peopleas the classic horror film style are.

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsSavage Harvest - Carl Manes -
When the stones from an ancient ritual of Native Americans are disturbed by a group of boys, each of the members who have been in contact with them becomes possessed by demons! SAVAGE HARVEST is the worst hands in horror, and just goes to show that anyone with a camera can make a movie. Outside of acting awkward, staged writing and static camera work, the crop suffers from all limitations in usual low-budget sound recording irregular, low light, and choppy editing. Yet, despiteall his doubts, director Eric rooms can trigger a series of terrifying demons and blood soaked the film! Make-up FX to take a clear influence of Italian masters blood, with many visual references to creatures DEMONS Light. Any Indie Horror aficionados who can make their way through the painful set-up will be rewarded with an impressive series of gags around which the plot was clearly written. Hills are violently torn, ripped torsos are in the middle, and there is a mandatory gun to his face. SAVAGE harvest can not do for the big screen, but once it is rolling, is sure to please fans splatter!

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsEric's best. though his last - J. Ronthi - Washington, DC USA
This film may not be technically better than other films of rooms, however, has the power of innocence and effort. One can say that they tried hard for this film, even rooms.

The plot is decent, even if one subscribed. It has the force of originality in concept, not necessarily history. Gore has done decently for a no-budget films. The trick was awesome. The players gave their all, even if it was not enough.

Since this is a debut film, the errors areforgivable.

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsTerrible - The Prestige - CA, USA
"Savage Harvest" was the film debut of director Eric rooms, which has now gone to direct the more ambitious efforts, like "Ice From the Sun" and "Scrapbook". With some decent gore effects, "Savage Harvest" has little to recommend. The plot is derivative, poorly scripted with a lot of exposure delivered during the first thirty minutes of vacuum before boring actors whose deliveries will leave you ready to fall asleep. Once the blood starts to fly, the plot takes alittle but is still inconsistent and largely uninteresting mess. Despite efforts to inject some rooms' life in the material with a few touches of style director, "Savage Harvest" is a feature debut to forget for the most part by a director who would make significant leaps in the quality with its future projects.

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsA slow, but decent start to a long career - M. Celaschi - California
This is, well, I do not know exactly. I think a group of kids decide to camp near a lake where a Native American tribe elder was doing voodoo was lynched and buried in a hole in the water. They somehow summon some demons, a portal to another dimension, and a crazy looking wizard.

The film gets off to a very slow start. The acting is bad and the dialogue lame. I found it hard to even look at the actors. The Kills do not start until the 30 minute mark and then is toolate to save the movie. The general idea surrounding the stones and demons and magic tribes of prestige was complicated and boring, with characters explaining the story behind, does not care to listen to everyone.

The positive is that special effects are quite good considering the low budget. There is a demon with foam squirting from a nail in the end it is the language!?! There have been comparisons (most probably by the same production team) that this is the next Evil Dead. Pleaseto diverge. This film was boring and Evil Dead was an immensely likeable fun with "hero."

This is the first exit for rooms in the director's chair or any chair for that matter. Considering this was done with a low budget, with limited experience, I think that shows they can make things better down the road. I saw Scrapbook (2000), it was better to act and moved at a fast pace, so that is proof enough for me.

Bottom Line: moves slowlyand easily forgotten. Watch only if a fan needs new rooms or Gorefest mild.

Rating: 4.5/10

Once Bitten Overview

Comedy superstar Jim Carrey plays a hot-blooded teen who becomes the reluctant donor to a sultryand extremely thirstynocturnal nymph (Lauren Hutton) in this funny'sexy (Boxoffice) send-up of the horror genre! Mark (Carrey) has just one thing on his mind: going all the way. But whilehis girlfriend keeps telling him he has to wait, he meets a beautiful vampire countess (Hutton) who's ready for action! Mark's just happy to get past second base but after a one-night stand with the sexy seductress, Mark starts behaving more than a little batty and realizes he must find a way to break his lover's fiendish spell...or be prepared to work the graveyard shift forever!

Once Bitten Specifications

This is the movie that was supposed to make Jim Carrey a star--in 1985, no less. Perhaps it's no wonder that it took him until the 1990s (and In Living Color): this bloodless vampire comedy almost sank his movie career before it began. Carrey plays an innocent L.A. teen, the unlikely object of the affections of slinky Lauren Hutton, a long-lived vampire who needs the blood of a virgin to stay young. So, she woos the unsuspecting, naive young Valley guy. But most of the jokes fall flat, and only when Carrey cuts loose briefly and lets his wild side show do we get a glimpse of the future Ace Ventura. --Marshall Fine

Horror Movies Customer Reviews

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsMark (Jim Carrey) is your typical 18 years that is as close to graduation has a sweet girlfriend Robin (Karen Kopins) as he is a virgin about to try to fuck. One night in Hollywood, as he and his two friends Jamie and Russ (Skip Lackey and Thomas Ballatore) go in search of fish, you stumble into a bar where a beautiful vampire sleaze private 200-year-old named Countess (Lauren Hutton), who efeminte has a butler named Sebastian (Little Clevon) tries for Mark must havea virgin to remain beautiful forever. But when she seduces Mark bites where you do not tan in the sun, turning it into a semi-vampire that he craves blood, scares the kids and also has dreams of Countess puzzle as it seems his friends and girlfriend.

Exciting and moderately funny comedy sex teen horror that marks the debut of Jim Carrey on the big screen in 1985. The film provides some laughs as funny as yet homoerotic shower scene in which Jamie and localRuss has to check where Marco has been bitten, like all the freaks that made me laugh out loud and acting is not bad. It 'really a film about virginity and learning of what can be true love, I highly recommend this film to those who liked "Fright Night 1 & 2," Vamp "and" The Lost Boys. "

The DVD offers a pleasing look to the widescreen and full screen versions with a single extra is the teaser trailer, the movie is still very funny.

I like Hutton for some reason. and Jim is the man! funny movie 80's with a butler twist. The is super fun and reminds me of Do not Worry Be happy boy or butler Fresh Prince (a show I hate) and one of the first good film of Jim. Good for fans to watch or rent any Carrey.

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsTwice Shy doesn't apply - Jason - Backwater, Alabama
Be careful Twilight fans, this is how you do. Once Bitten is a light touch on the traditional vampire story that moves away from the dark side of vampirism, and produces a nice movie, but intelligent good for all ages.

A vampire countess (Lauren Hutton), has a desperate need for virgin blood to stay young and maintain the skills and benefits of being a vampire - one of which is eternal beauty. Fortunately for her, Mark Kendall (Jim Carrey) - a bit 'silly, lanky teenager withraging hormones - have problems sealing the deal with his girlfriend a bit 'bigots. In fairness to her, however, is trying to do the front seat of his ice cream truck. Mark bond with his girlfriend begins to fall apart when he meets the countess, and she begins to use his seductive power to gain his trust and extract his blood.

This guilty pleasure '80s is fun from beginning to end. Fittings music and fashions of the time are fun.Clevon Little as caregiver of the countess' name Sebastian is brilliant in his mannerism. A sequence of classical ballet is a career start, when Jim Carrey simply oozes talent, and a pretty awesome Michael Jackson impersonation. Finishing with a chase through the skin of the Countess' palace, Mark is torn between his high school sweetheart and Countess seductive.

Horror Movies Customer Reviews

Horror Movies Customer ReviewsInnovative in its day, Planet of the Apes hold up extremely well as intelligent, exciting science fiction cinema. Enormously popular, it spawned the "myth" concept of sequels and mass marketing of tie-ins that materialized later in the Star Wars saga. It 's probably heresy (preferred term Dr. Zaius') for a while' for me to say this, but I never cared for Star Wars. I find the saga APES much more original and intriguing. The premise has apocalyptic significance is in progress. I think even thosemonkeys still look pretty cool.

My five stars is mainly for the original 1968 Planet of the Apes, which is a stand alone classic in good faith, his final shot is one of the most iconic images of powerful and enduring in all filmdom. While the quality of the sequel leaves consecutively, all of them are still funny and his movies. They also provide a rationale for the cycle so that when I saw battle for the planet of the apes, you're still revvedthe first film.

For the devoted fans APES, or the person who enjoys science fiction cleverly designed, this DVD collection is highly recommended. Also included is an excellent documentary film hosted by regular cast member of the Apes, Roddy McDowall. By the way, the short-lived TV series is worth checking out too.
