Slither (Combo HD DVD and Standard DVD) Specifications
With laughs and gross-outs aplenty, Slither is the best horror comedy since Shaun of the Dead. Having written for the jubilant trash-mongers at Troma Films before scripting 2004's well-received remake of Dawn of the Dead, writer-director James Gunn crafted this hilarious splatter-fest as an homage to the comically violent horror films of the 1970s and '80s, and he gets it just right with a low-budget look, perfect casting, grisly make-up effects and judicious use of CGI gore. The story's a deliberate monster-mash, borrowing from a dozen other movies with its plot about an invasion of slithery slug-like parasites from outer space, arriving (via meteorite) in the redneck town of Wheelsy, South Carolina, where they turn most of the local yokels into flesh-eating zombies. The first victim (played by Michael Rooker) turns into a squid-like, multi-tentacled host monster (kill him and you kill 'em all), and his terrified wife (Elizabeth Banks) teams up with Wheelsy's sheriff (Nathan Fillion, from Firefly and Serenity) and mayor (comedic scene-stealer Gregg Henry) to eradicate the alien threat before Wheelsy turns into Slugville. Gunn handles comedy and horror with exuberant flair, and Slither's greatest strength is that it never aspires to be anything more than it is: 96 minutes of good laughs and gruesomeness, served up with the kind of gleeful abandon that only true horror buffs can fully appreciate.--Jeff Shannon

Slither is the wet dream of a horror fan, assembling a project for collection of familiar faces to head against a slippery foe in one of 2006's goriest guilty pleasures! An alien menace threatens to destroy the small town of Wheelsy when parasitic snails start to turn its citizens into zombies controlled mentally. Director James Gunn firmly denies that he saw Fred Dekker's Night of the Creeps before shooting, however the two films share similarities far too many to be ignored. Many other 80 nodsclassics (including "Henenlotter Lodge," a cameo by Lloyd Kaufman, and a modified version of the theme PREDATOR) only strengthen the case against him, but regardless of plagiarism, Slither provides entertainment and originality enough to distinguish it from its predecessor. The acid spit, slug-infested creatures take a refreshing change-up from the usual zombie fare, and their group consciousness gives them a unique advantage. Michael Rooker is off-beat performance of allGrant changed is disturbing as disgusting, while each of the other characters hold their own as shoot and hit their way through the city. Slither also offers an even mix of practical and digital FX, just based on computer imaging to film that could not realistically be completed in-frame. With his sharp wit and dry blood slides of a tonne of gross-out fun!

The Worm Turns - sft - UK
Always lovely Nathan Fillion heads a solid cast but underused in this horror comedy zombies. There are some nice in-jokes and one-liners here, but overall the film is not that funny. The problem is that the zombie film, for the most part, are so ridiculous as to be beyond parody. So a script is very strong need to inject humor and Gunn is not quite up to the mark. It is always fun though, and I feel cheated. One thing I'd like to know if it's because zombiesalways so poor coordination.
Slither. - Jose Lopez - Miami,Florida USA
Not A Scary Movie just gross and seeks to shock, the fat woman who explodes and continues to grow until ... well you know. Not really a horror film.
Must see - Daxthedamned - San Mateo CA
A truly great film. I'm not a big fan of horror films. I like some, like "The Shining" or old Hitchcock film. But this is great. The humor is well managed. It seems that the reactions of the actors in an extraordinary situation are realistic. Some really great acting from Nathan Lane and Michael Rooker really make this a must.
So if you're a hardcore slasher This may be the horror movie for you. Even the extras are great.
