End of Days [HD DVD] Overview
After a two-year hiatus that included recovery from heart surgery, Arnold Schwarzenegger returned to the big screen in November 1999 with End of Days, a Thanksgiving turkey if ever there was one. Overcooked and bloated with stuffing, this ludicrous thriller attached itself to the end-of-the-millennium furor that kicked in a year too early. A prologue begins in 1979 with panic in the Vatican when a comet signals the birth of a child who will, 20 years later, become the chosen bride of Satan, destined to conceive the devil's spawn between 11 p.m. and midnight on December 31, 1999. It's hard to decide who has the more thankless role--Robin Tunney as Satan's would-be bride, or Schwarzenegger as Jericho Cane, the burned-out alcoholic bodyguard assigned to protect the girl from Satan, billed as "The Man" and played with cheesy menace (and an inconsistent variety of metaphysical manifestations) by Gabriel Byrne.
With kitschy character names like Jericho and Chicago (Arnie's partner, played by Kevin Pollack) and lapses in logic that any 5-year-old could spot, End of Days is a loud, aggravating movie that would be entertaining if it were intended as comedy. But Schwarzenegger and director Peter Hyams approach the story as an earnest tale of redemption and tested faith, delivering a ridiculous climax full of special effects and devoid of dramatic impact. You're left instead to savor the verbal and physical sparring between Satan and Jericho, resulting in the most thorough pummeling Schwarzenegger's ever endured onscreen. Of course he eventually gets his payback, just in time for New Year's Eve. Perhaps he was touched by an angel. --Jeff Shannon

Jericho Cane, a former policeman killed, she wakes to another day, oblivious to the fight which soon will face. His work as a security specialist alongside his partner Chicago has become a routine job tireless surveillance bleak, and after the death of his wife and son, everything in life that once has no meaning for him is now gone . Following a bizarre confrontation with a crazed homeless man warning him of impending doom, Cane rescues a young woman, Christine York by an attacker whohave invaded his home. He soon finds himself involved in a cardiac arrest game of cat and mouse, as he realizes that she is the key to a supernatural force of terror, born of prophecy long ago foretold. For she is the unwitting object of desire of what appears to be deceptively just a man, but in reality is the ultimate embodiment of evil Satan. Now, while the world stands on the brink of the new millennium, it is a dog to protect Christine and all of humanity by seeing the end of the day. End ofNow is a great mix of horror, action and supernatural elements. This is a film not to be missed. I watch this movie everytime it come on. - Jennifer Richards - Birmingham, ALThe devil can be very evil entity. The film presents a framework of "The End" should be the end. Obviously people do not believe this, but the film was a great way to start the phenomenom. I hope you decided to watch this film.
You think you've seen everything? - Van Halen Kurtz - Twin OaksWait until you see Miriam Margolyes beating the hell outta Arnold Schwarzenegger. Yet another excellent action sequence in a film full of excellent action sequences. Yes, I'm dodging the question about the plot, but, then again, so the film itself most of the time. Not a problem because every plot point comes complete with a dodgy action sequence excellent. End of Days is trying hard to be a satisfactory standard Schwarzenegger action film with something different,~ Noir and also something terrible. OK, forget the things religious, just boil down to what matters, the essence ruthless: Schwarzenegger has a desperate man haunted by his inability to protect his wife and son, now called to redeem himself and protect another innocent Grander on a canvas. Classic stuff. By hatching late 90s grunge. Schwarzenegger really take a beating here, but then again, his enemy is a bit 'more amped than, for example, Bennett and Subzero. Did I mentionexcellent action sequences? What else is there to know? Are you looking for Shakespeare? Big Mistake. Boom!
Somewhat good, but kind of annoying - Eric Mckay - Pittsburgh PaThis movie made me like and hate. All at the same time. I bought this movie cause I thought it was a simple shot of Arnold action. Not relize I had a Christian theme to it. Not that it ruined the movie for me. But he made it a bit 'boring to watch. Not being a Christian. Since this film is out of Christianity to be real. A "Without a doubt" type of attitude. But I relize it is just entertainment. Having said that I did like the parts in action films. Eshooting hole Arnold em up kinda thing you would expect. But after being a bit 'bored holes for two hours to get to the end. And see what happens in nature Arnolds. The more you try to use the devil to scare you. If you do not believe in hell as you think you find it scary? So basically the religious theme bothered me. But overall it was good entertainment. I now see why the copy I possess very fine in this movie now. It is currently out of print.
No matter how silly, good vs. evil, I'm there! - Tony's reviews - I liked this movie the first time I've seen, and the same as now. The charecters are a bit irregular ', but the actors playing them do a decent job, and seem to have a lot of fun with it.
I am sick and tired of acting as critics know right from wrong, because for me, 98% of the time, do not know
squat! Thus, a striking example of this movie, good against evil has been done several times, and granted, this is not the most original either, but enjoyable as well as being aArnold fan does not hurt, although it seems much more human in this, although it is still cause a lot of damage here. Gabriel Byrne is a devilish good shape too obvious main villain, I've seen my share of representations of evil, and that does not disappoint here.
The cast still does a nice job too, although some do not last too long. I'm getting a bit 'tired of saying
the same thing, but here you should not expect the accuracy of the Bible, try to take its own merits,Cloud ten pictures, take note.
